I'm interested to see what he tells you as I've been on a low dose since June of 2015 when I got stents put in.

Oh look...a gotcha title. Better read the article folks. Stout isn't a doctor. Talk to your doctor (as recommended in the article.)

"Doctors have long recommended daily low-dose aspirin for many patients who already have had a heart attack or stroke. The task force guidance does not change that advice."

Plavix is only slightly better

You have been banned from Facebook for posting medical misinformation. Plavix is a wonder drug. Aspirin is sometimes given to dogs so you're taking a veterinary product and you're an anti science philistine.

yeah my dad is the strongest person i know; i swear the man could lift our house and into his 70s fit as fiddle (unlike his lazy son). he had a massive stroke out of the blue one day.

my dad's dad worked WELL into his 80s, selling pocketknives and pens out of the back of his car after not being able to work a regular job. one day he also had a massive stroke that turned him into a vegetable.

pretty sure the low dose aspirin recommendation AFTER the stroke wouldn't really help them out here.

i'm taking one daily because i can see where my genes are taking me. been doing this for a couple years and don't see that there's a downside.

All science is settled. We laugh at old science until the new science comes out and then we laugh what used to be the new science. That’s the great thing about science. You’re not allowed to question it until scientists tell you to, but by that time they have new science that can’t be questioned.

My cardiologist gave me a choice between Plavix and low dose aspirin daily.

After my stent in 2017 I was on Plavix for a year. That shite is the devil.

It's just comical at this point.

Not that anyone here actually cares but it’s not surprising the USPSTF said this as they are always quite conservative when it comes to interventions.

Bleeding risks for adults in their 60s and up who haven't had a heart attack or stroke outweigh any potential benefits from aspirin, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said in its draft guidance.

This is not new. The recommendation against blanket low dose asa use in those without existing CVD or for routine primary prevention has been known for a while. USPSTF usually lags 1-2 years.

quote:

Aspirin is well established for secondary prevention of ASCVD and is widely recommended for this indication, but recent studies have shown that in the modern era, aspirin should not be used in the routine primary prevention of ASCVD due to lack of net benefit.

Every aspirin study ive seen only showed like a 1-2% benefit in “healthy” people.

Right. In residency we were made to take everyone off of aspirin that had no known CAD or history of stroke. This isn’t news.

A. This is one study
B. Are you really high risk for heart attack or stroke? Still might be worth it
