First, the Northwestern band stepped up to loan a local (Baton Rouge area) band much needed instruments due to the flood.
NSU Band provides instruments to flood victims
Second, the Southern band stepped up by taking a few minutes out of their band camp schedule to ease the pain and suffering of flood victims residing at shelters with a heartfelt performance.
Souther band performs for flood victims
Third, The University of Southern Mississippi has stepped up by collecting instruments for flood victims (Louisiana band and orchestra students).
USM Professor collects instruments for flood victims
Why has the LSU band administration not "stepped up" to help our community. I am aware that the LSU band has an extensive collection of instruments that are ONLY used for the Alumni band performance each year (enough for a 300 piece alumni band). I am proud to call myself an LSU Alum. However, I am "less proud" to call myself a Tiger Band fan."

I didn't know USM was doing that. Good on Southern Miss for doing that.

Maybe members of the tiger band lost things themselves and they're focusing their efforts on helping their own?

And more than likely those instruments were donated or bought with donated funds and you can't just give that stuff away due to it being a restricted gift.

Not excusing anything but there's always more than meets the eye.

I do not hat the Tiger Band. Just calling attention to something I believe is wrong. If you are "happy" with Damon Talley, Dennis Llinas and Todd Queen concerning this issue, then please express your opinion on that. I have nothing against you personally.

I will grant the OP has a point here. LSU Band Dept doesn't seem to do much of anything outside the university. Rarely see them at Mardi Gras or other functions. They have a High School right on campus with a decent marching band. You would think they would make an effort to recruit from there or host those kids for a game or something. They don't. They just seem to do their thing and that's it.

You band geeks are really weird

Instead of being happy for other bands, you use something like this to bitch about the LSU band

Don't you think the same thing would apply to the Southern band members?

Not suggesting LSU give/donate those instruments. But maybe they could loan them. I know for a fact that these high school bands have been loaning instruments to LSU for many years (for the alumni game). Why can't LSU do that for them?

Did you not notice the cluster frick tiger band admin has become in the past few years? I doubt anyone there is concerned with going above and beyond to help the bands image. It's probably for the best that they remain under the radar.

I have zero issues with that as a tiger band alum. They are currently dealing with a new director and were trying to get through preseason week during the flood. Do you just look for things to bitch about? How about the fact that probably 30% of the members are from this area and were likely dealing with their own flooded family homes or apartments. Good grief!

They have done MANY "good samaritan" deeds in recent years (maybe more than in recent history. Partnering with the "Make a Wish Foundation," The South Carolina gesture last year, just to name a few.
