Was in Columbia ms during that time. 20 mins west of Hattiesburg. Without power for 2 weeks and trees covered all the roads. Houses blown over left and right. Katrina fd Mississippi for a hundred miles

Lots of blame to spread around for the failures. Hopefully everyone learns something.

Mississippi also had a governor that didn't collapse before the storm hit AND didn't have a National Guard Brigade deployed in Iraq.
Nagin is the guy to blame in LA if you are looking for scapegoats beyond FEMA IMO.

This is what people outside that area have no frame of reference for.
I ran a semi truck of water and supplies down 3-4 days afterwards and the NG wouldn’t let us south of Hattiesburg because the roads were completely jacked due to trees and power lines being down and there not being gas.
We were even allowed that far until they confirmed that we were armed and would be leaving before dark as soon as we dropped our supplies at a staging area.
To put that in perspective, Hattiesburg is 85 miles NE of where Katrina made its final landfall.
Even in Tuscaloosa when the eye passed through it left wind and tornado damage all throughout W AL.
Tuscaloosa is 285 miles from Bay St Louis…

Hey, look on the bright side. MS has mostly recovered. New Orleans? Not so much. Good video. The truth of Katrina.

No mention of Slidell? Got hit by the eyewall… twice. Miles of devastation inland from a 4 ft surge.

Can confirm that Bogalusa got smoked. West side of eyewall went straight up the Pearl River.

But this idea that people in New Orleans weren’t tough enough to pick themselves up is comical.
