People are incapable of detaching themselves from the truth claims of their own religions and discussing it in an academic or theoretical sense. There is a lot of "I'm right, you're wrong, this is a fact" bloviating, especially from the evangelical faction, which seems to take great satisfaction from telling Catholics they are wrong.

Religion can only be discussed in a setting like this if every religious person accepts the possibility, however great or small, that they could be wrong. I'm Catholic and I believe what I believe, but I am fully prepared to say that I and everybody else on the planet could be wrong. It is from that ecumenical spirit that good religious conversations flow. But you Bible thumpers just can't do it.

I see what you're saying but how is that any different from Democrats, Republicans, and people from other miscellaneous ideologies telling each other that one side is right while the others are wrong on the Political Talk board?

This is why I don't understand why there isn't a Religion Board. The same arguments occur over politics likewise occur over religion.

Show me on the doll where the bad Baptist touched you.

So you want to have a good religious discussion, yet start it out by being judgmental towards evangelicals and calling them names. Cool.

Don't you mean Protestants vs. Catholics? Both are Christian. Protestants just happen to be heretics.

Bloviates about people being immature in religious discourse and ends with immature insult. Way to lead by example on immature discourse.

You're never "wrong " if your following the beliefs of your religion. Maybe in your eyes, you may think I'm wrong, but of I'm following my religion, I'm not wrong.
So get off of your pedestal of thinking you are "right. Just because you disagree with where their religious stance is

Catholics have their pope god that they worship with his funny hat. That doesn't sound anything like the good Christians I know, the Baptists, Methodists, Mormons, and Protestants.

All people need to do is realize that a "belief" is just that, a belief. If it's a fact then there are no alternatives or theories... Ex: You can't believe or not belief in gravity. It's a fact.

His response is typical of an argument you'd see concerning politics on the Political Talk board. However, when you respond to this in a cool and decisive manner, someone on the fence might engage and be persuaded by your argument.

It's not a Pope god. The bishop of Rome is Peter's successor and speaks on religious matters with the authority Jesus Christ bestowed on to Peter. Mary isn't worshipped either. You just pray for her intercession since being Jewish the best way to get Jesus on your side is his mom.
