Personally I'm glad my cheer coach forced me to do the splits way back when.

My wife, sister, and sister-in-law (all former high school cheerleaders) each said this was not uncommon at their practices.

Moreover, the girls on their squads requested their friends and coaches do this to them. they weren't allowed to perform/cheer if they couldn't do their splits

They would also be held out if they didn't know the cheers, the routines, showed up with the wrong uniform, etc.

Back to the splits, they preferred the temporary discomfort-if it came to that-to the embarrassment of being "suspended/benched"

Also, they turned straight "Mean girls" on this girl and her mom: "she wouldn't have made our middle school squad", "uhhhh what an ugly cryer, definitely wouldn't have run to the news looking that fugly", and so on and so forth.

Not let my daughters cheer for what appears to be a straight, male, cheer coach.

If it's competitive cheerleading, kids and parents need to toughen up or just quit.

We have soccer for kids that can't compete at competitive sports.

If your body is telling you "hey, feel this extreme pain? maybe you should stop doing whatever it is you're doing"...then maybe it isn't a good idea.

Bull crap, pain from such things is the body's way of saying "hey I'm not used to this" I know people who would literally feel pain walking one fricking mile, does that mean they shouldn't be walking? No , it means they're body isn't accustomed to such.

Why is a man doing that job in the first place? He needs to be drawn and quartered

When I was a kid in martial arts class the instructor would come by and kick our legs out to make us hit the ground while doing the splits. shite hurt but it worked. don't see shite wrong with this.

She was also 13 and this was a summer camp. It was not as though it was a competitive situation. The parents tried to handle it since June and were ignored
