Why French Kids Don't Have ADHD
Because ADHD is rare and over diagnosed in the USA from doctors getting kickbacks for putting kids on drugs.
It has now spread to adults who still think it is ok to be on drugs all the time.

You have done the hard work. Now, you can begin adding in planned interruptions in the schedule and teach your kid how to handle the change. This will teach her how to handle change and how to adjust "the schedule" based on the length of interruption.

You should read this book if you haven't already. It's probably required reading for French psychiatrists and the reason they've been very successful at treating this.

That's actually very interesting. Thank you for posting that. One of the best posts that I've ever read from you, especially considering about 90 percent of your posts are worthless droning.

I lived with a middle class French family in Paris in 10th grade as a part of an exchange program. I went to their high school and did everything the kids in the family did. This article is spot on. They had VERY structured meal times and even meals. The portions were small, but it was enough. We ate an appetizer and no one got their next plate until everyone finished. And so on. Not just for dinner, but every meal. Even casual meals where the desserts were a single pudding cup per person, the spoon was laid on the table and everyone began eating at the same time, sitting straightforward at the dining room table. Very, very structured lifestyle as children. We had 1 hour for homework, 1 hour for dinner, 1 hour for reading after dinner, etc. School was very similar as well. It was set up kind of like Harry Potter, in that we didn’t play other schools in sports, but the school itself was split into teams (not 4, it was like 6 I believe). The teachers gave no fricks that I could barely understand them when they talked fast and held me to the same academic standards. It was brutal . Oh, and the two kids (15 year old male and 12 year old female) shared bath water in the morning before school. I, of course, pulled the plug and refilled for myself. I’m sure they thought I was a wasteful American, but I draw the line somewhere

Before adderall, college students were taking diet pills and blow to focus harder on school work.
Its just speed and yes, it helps productivity.
But it is bad for you and also unnecessary for a vast majority of children if they had more structure growing up and parents just realized kids have energy. That's not a bad thing.
ETA: I don't care what adults do or take. It is just sad sometimes seeing kids turned into adderall zombies for no reason. I was one of those kids.

bullshite. The aforementioned statistics pertained to a percentage of the general population, not overall diagnosed cases of ADHD.

typically these threads bring them out and you get a lot of "I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT MY [AMPHETAMINE] BRO" responses

I've only read the first chapter but seems to fit right in line with this book that I got:

Every time I think I might have some sort of ADD or ADHD, I just realize that I'm actually just bad a time blocking and self discipline.

That book title remind anyone else of Ed Orgeron?
FTR, my mom is and always has been called meme (don't know how to do accents). She was an Au Pair in France after college and teaches French currently in Baton Rouge. Growing up, she always tried to hide her cursing from me by doing it in French. I find myself doing it sometimes now
I won't say my siblings names on here, but they are so French its hilarious
Needless to say, we are a very French family. I grew up with crepes instead of french toast (oh, the irony).
ETA:
And I sought adderall in 8th grade because I took my friends, loved my productivity, focus the way I felt, and convinced my parents I needed it. They were told by my doctor it was harmless. I took it until I graduated then told my doctor I didn't want it for college (which was a dumb move because they were clutch for finals).
Adderall works. Its just unnecessary for most kids. I loved it as an adult in college though studying for finals

I always love the guys that say "I have a hard time focusing on boring stuff that I don't really like, so I have to take pills"
every single person has a hard time focusing on shite they don't like to do or find boring, its not a disease or condition, its just human nature

how we love to hand out amphetamine-based stimulants like candy (primarily to treat ADD/ADHD)
The drug I take is not handed out like candy. Its very very restricted, almost to the point of frustration.

Exactly.
But my opinion is, if you're of age to make that decision, more power to you. If you're a kid, you should learn to deal with this on your own (except rare circumstances of kids that really need help).

the best part about discussing ADD stuff is when they CAN focus for hours on end on things...that happen to be fun
like video games, internet posting, etc
they call it hyperfocus and it always cracks me up b/c the discussion boils down to "well they don't like doing boring shite that nobody likes doing, but they REALLY frickING LOVE doing exciting things that all of their peers likes doing".

when i say "handed out like candy", i mean it's legally prescribed to a metric frick ton of people
i don't care about the regulatory constraints of the DEA on the particular drug
