Back when I was in school (LONG AGO) I think if you had a BS/BA degree and you weren't in one of the professions named above, you didn't go in as an officer (with a contract), you went in as maybe an E5?? But that was ages ago, so I don't really know.

The Army Reserve and Guard had a push to direct commission folks a couple of years back, but this was for experienced military personnel and they needed at least 60 hours of college to qualify...

not sure if the Air Guard has a Simultaneous Membership Program, I know the Army Guard does and that's a good deal because you keep earning good time toward your 20 years, I had to take an 18 month break because I was in Advanced ROTC back in the day, would have been handy to have the extra time on the pay and RC retirement clock.

I'll definitely check into that

Senior, I recommend she join the ANG (spent 37 years in the Army, thirty as an officer). Join as enlisted (you were obviously very successful and can mentor her) and take AF ROTC in college simultaneously. Best direction she can go in my opinion. Stay away from the Army (it pains me to say that).

I'll definitely take that into consideration. I'm hoping that she can avoid the enlisted piece, but I've seen how difficult it is to get a senior enlisted position in the guard, so I assume getting a commissioned billet when people from that same unit are trying is next to impossible.

I suppose I am using the wrong terminology. I understand that she'd have to have a degree and I wasn't meaning skip OCS, what I mean is get picked up into an officer billet in the guard/reserves directly out of college without having to go AD or enlist in that unit first.

Yes, in the army the MOS code is O9S. I dont know about the Chair Force. If she is early in college ROTC is also an option.

An entry level (company grade in the Army) commission is relatively easy regardless as to the State. The challenge becomes staying in the same career field (knowing the inherent challenges found within the State) is where it becomes difficult. By the time you make field grade (Major and Lieutenant Colonel) you are a generalist taking whatever billet they offer for promotion. Same challenges you faced as an enlisted as you were promoted.

Yes, there are more opportunities in the AFRC because she can move across States for promotions. Very common in the Army Reserve.

I was assuming Belle Chasse was still kicking! When some AF Reserve units at Keesler deactivated several years ago, some members transfered to Belle Chasse.

How easy is it to direct commission into a weekend warrior position without prior service?

Not going to happen unless you have a skill that the Army needs that badly. I have two O3's and an O5 who are all recent direct commissions to my unit (all medical doctors), sending them all to DCC before going on to BOLC. Going to be fun sending a LTC to BOLC surrounded by butter bars.
