Everything looked really strange. I'll probably go to Nashville for this one.

It's on a Monday, I thought about taking off from NWLA with the wife and kids and driving to Little Rock that morning. Wiggle as far North as possible until go time, then turn around and driving home.
NWLA looks like .84 mag and Little rock is on the .9 magnitude line. I don't know if it would be worth it.

Adairville Kentucky is a prime viewing spot. About a 45 minute drive north of Nashville.

We live just outside of Nashville on a hill top. Oldest daughter is an ER RN in NOLA. She's coming up for it. I expect her to ask to bring a few friends. Wife is pumped.

Adairville is a very small town but is right in the path. They are having a big event for the eclipse. There are hotels 12-15 miles all around. I know i sound like a homer but it's not like we get to claim fame to much. Also have a lot of Jesse James old hideouts as well as a duel site where Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson.

Yes, I'll be traveling to my back patio.
That said, I hope it's cloudy just to piss my wife off. She's been over the top with this shite

I have an extra room I'll rent out for $200 if anyone is interested.

It will be 99.2% in Asheville, but I'm traveling about 50 miles south into South Carolina for a 100% eclipse. Expect monster traffic jams all along the path of totality.

LSU faculty and students are participating in some kind of balloon launch event in Carbondale, IL. Some NASA connected thing that will be broadcast live. Not sure what the impact or visibility or whatever here in BR but there will be events that day on the Parade Grounds with astronomers, etc. LINK

Yikes, you are such a butthole! Why do you want your wife to be disappointed?
I saw one in the 80's when I was very little. I remember the adults being excited about it and the homemade viewer they helped me look through. My older cousin explained the eclipse to me and it was an awesome experience.
This is a special event and if the forecast is good we will check the kiddo out of school so he can see it too.

People are crazy.
In 1984 in the Baton Rouge area we had a total eclipse. It was around noon. I was at work. Most people but not everyone went outsde to see it. Some used welding hoods. Some made viewers out of two pieces of cardboard. Or, you could simply stand under a tree and look at hundreds of images of the Eclipse all over everything from the rays of sunlight gleaming through the leaves. It was cool but all-in-all the overall perception from most people was pretty meh. Not even everyone came out to see it.

The 1984 eclipse was not total - it was annular. It was awesome, but this one will knock your socks off.

Can you post a pic of your wife?

The "in" place to be for this eclipse is the small town of Makanda, Illinois (population - 500). They are in the path of totality for this eclipse and will be in the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse.

I'll walk outside at work and see it.
