Or, you could figure out a different place that stays open until 10 or 11. Is this the only sit down restaurant in the world after the zombie apocalypse? Do we not have phones that can google other near by restaurants?

Everything you’re saying is technically allowable, but extremely tacky in practice. I’m betting you’re probably just an a-hole in general.

And an a-hole that clearly never worked in a restaurant.

I waited tables for years and so did my brother and sister. Trust me, any server and kitchen staff would rather be home an hour earlier than earn your $10 tip you left when you were their only table that late.

Take it up with the owner that set your open hours.

Where a small percentage of people seem to miss the point entirely is that when the clothing store is open until 8pm, you don't come in at 7:50 to start trying on suits.

Tell me you never worked retail without telling me.

No. It should be common courtesy and just flat common sense not to enter a restaurant if they're w/in an hour of closing.

That dude is a douche.

So if a restaurant closes at 10, and you come sit down at 9:40 you think you'll be done by those "set open hours'?

No

You'll have a bunch of servers and kitchen staff standing around waiting on you to eat and cash out, since you'll be the only dickhead in the restaurant and everyone already closed down their stations by 10:30+ when you're inevitably done.

The owner didn't set the hours to close at 11pm, but people like you think "they're paid to serve me!" and don't give a frick if those employees are working late because you're an inconsiderate a-hole.

Another person that obviously never worked in a restaurant

This thread certainly points out the type of people that own businesses vs the ones that wash dishes

That's not my problem. You are pen for business. Unless you state that diners must be out the business prior to close, I don't care.

Too fricking bad. The restaurant is open for business until the time posted. I'm not a dickhead, you're an entitled lazy shithead

Yeah, it's people that don't own businesses who would come in to a place that closes at 9pm and expect them to stay open until 9:30 just to serve them.

I own a record shop and if someone's polite to my staff and apologizes for being there a few minute late, that's fine. I leave that up to them but I also pay them more per hour if they stay late.

However, it's up to my employees because I want them to be happy with their jobs and make it on time to dinner with their girlfriends or band practice a whole hell of a lot more than I need a few extra dollars from the type inconsiderate assholes that would just expect them stay 30 minutes extra.

So what you're saying is it's up to the owner? Seems ya'll agree.

Exactly. When owner sets the closing time they expect customers to be considerate enough to be out of the place by that time.

It’s for the already seated customers to be able to finish their meal. Not for asshats to come in ten minutes before then still sitting there AFTER close.

The joke is on all the trolls on this thread claiming it’s ok to show up 10 minutes before close. You are LITERALLY eating the cooks dick with the food in your mouth
