Same here. Best decision my wife and I have ever made. I don't miss a certain segment of the population a bit.

Discouraged by all those section 8 apartments they are building at the mall behind Dicks and the Movie theatre

st, we have do deal with the legacy of our ignoble past,
What ignoble past? The one where urban parents treat schools like baby sitting service? Where urban parents offer 0 participation or involvement with their kids? It doesn't matter what anyone does or how well intentioned they are, EBR schools will suck till the students parents take some responsibility for their own spawn. And it's limited to EBR.

Jesus. What could possibly go wrong?

Having not grown up in BR, when I moved their for college I was amazed at how sectionalized each neighborhood was. Neighborhoods seem to have a definitive beginning and end.
I spent some time living in Kenilworth. How is that now?
And how badly are Broadmoor and Sherwood Forest deteriorating? I knew those 2 areas were older, and when I drove through I could just imagine the insides of those houses not being updated.
The school system totally sucks. Schools need to be zoned for their neighborhoods. That busing idea can kill a sense of neighborhood pride, spread crime around, and make all schools gravitate toward the bottom as far as performance.

As most have pointed out, until we adress the traffic issue and resolve the educational system we will never turn the corner. I believe we can resolve those issues. However it may be the next generation of BR residents that actually make the difference.

You cannot resolve the education system in BR unless you can somehow segregate the schools into two groups. Kids/Parents who want to be successful and Kids/Parents who don't.

Still a nice beighborhood. Crime is creeping into even the safest areas, but that section of town is still quite nice.

You have at least three generations to go before you overcome the inner city school situation- anywhere. And that's if you get the parents to take some responsibility today. Hard to be hopeful given what is going on and proposed as solutions.

Schools being segregated is what started all this mess.

I think you mean desegregated. When the desegregation and busing started is when EBR went downhill.

I just head to the camp on non-tailgate weekends anyway, so I don't worry about the "night life" over here in Central.
Posted on 10/31/15 at 4:02 pm to lsu13lsu
No I mean people having a problem with the schools being segregated is what led to the forced integration that caused all these issues today.

I'll be sure to alert Our Lady of Mercy that they need to abandon their master plan upgrades...

This happened everywhere though. Inner city schools across the country suffered. Louisiana public schools suck almost across the board compared to their peers in other states (meaning comparing similar demographic communities). Our schools suck because we haven't been ambitious about making them better.
