You don't think it's fricked up that the mayor decided to start pulling down public monuments in the middle of the night using city employees (firefighters) and without letting the citizens of NOLA vote on whether or not to remove them?

They already voted to remove them by voting in the Mayor. Mayors make executive decisions, courts then decide if those decisions are legal. Don't like the monument being removed, take it to court.

This is absolutely retarded logic, but based on your posts, it's expected.

Do you really think a majority of residents in either Orleans parish or the city limits, would vote to keep the statues?

Honestly, yes.

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

If so, you're out of your mind

Based on what?

Orleans Parish went 133,996 for Hillary, 24,292 for Trump. So in an place that went 84.6% for Hillary Clinton, you think a majority would vote to keep the statues? If so, you're either really dumb, or out of your mind.

But would they actually vote to keep them? The Liberty Monument which has this inscription:

quote:

The following inscription was added in 1932:

[quote]The following inscription was added in 1932:

"[Democrats] McEnery and Penn[11] having been elected governor and lieutenant-governor by the white people, were duly installed by this overthrow of carpetbag government, ousting the usurpers, Governor Kellogg (white) and Lieutenant-Governor Antoine (colored).
United States troops took over the state government and reinstated the usurpers but the national election of November 1876 recognized white supremacy in the South and gave us our state."

They'd vote to keep that?

Now you're just lying to yourself.

I know a ton of voters that stayed home knowing Trump would hold Louisiana

I would say the parish is closer to 40/60 split... just my opinion

But I don't know a single 'democrat' that has even brought up the monument issue.

This is about scoring political points with race baiters

Saying this to defend a monument, which was erected with the explicit purpose of memorializing racists and the violence they perpetrated, is very dubious.

When people are being murdered daily for nothing, when the potholes on the streets can swallow cars, when corruption runs rife...You are really gonna bullshite me that some old pieces of stone and metal are top priorities?

people get murdered every where and all the time. It has been happening since the dawn of man.

Potholes are more important then racism?

removing stone and metal that glorifies violence against a group of people whos only difference from the majority, at the time, was the color of their skin, is a high priority.

And I am not diminishing the concerns you put forth. Crime, corruption and infrastructure are all priorities. Things don't have to be either or.

There is inherent worth to removing a symbol of hate and racism.

Well when you get to frame the narrative you can make anything you want a "symbol of hate and racism".

By your nebulous definition, all the fleur de lis need to come down. All the plantations (do the ones that were owned by black slaveowners have to come down too? I'm unclear on that.)

Let's tear down the oak trees too since they may have been used to hang people.

Hmmm...better tear down all the antebellum houses in New Orleans too because they were probably owned by people who had or used slaves.

Burn all the sugar cane fields too.

Slavery and all.

In fact, let's just remove every vestige of the white devils and become the epitome of humanity like Haiti became once they killed all the whites.

I think only New Orleans and New Orleans East. A vast majority of white people that are racist moved away to Jefferson Parish or the North Shore.

The municipal boundaries of the city of New Orleans encompasses ALL of Orleans parish -- they are one in the same.

Well if those monuments sole purpose was to glorify racial violence, or if egyptian slaves were all the same/similar skin tone, and if the egyptians lost a war and were pissed with getting a participation trophy for it, and if the theory of slave labor to erect the tombs had no been debunked, and not a tomb for a Pharoh as well as being testaments to architectural excellence in a time w/o heavy machinery as we know it that has stood for 4600 years, then yes.
