I can’t decide if that’s a good way to go or not. Still thinking.

It's QUICK. Messy, but quick. Here's how fast it happens. This guy lived, by the way. His harness caught on a bolt or something like that on the inside of the cowling, the compressor blades scraped the top of his helmet, and the engine sucked off most of his clothes, but he didn't really make it into the blades or suffer any serious injuries. Scrapes, black eye, concussion, etc.

If you don't have a harness, you just get turned into red goo and distributed all over the inside of the engine. The parts of you that don't stick to the walls are cooked before being spit out the back. You also are on the hook for the massive damage to the engine.

Would the reverse thrust prevent him from being sucked in to the engine? Seriously don't know

The flow path doesn't reverse through the engine. It is still running and sucking air into the front and blowing the exhaust out of the back. The thrust reversers are two scoop like things that move into the exhaust stream coming out of the engine to redirect it. This is the thrust reverser of a 737 and shows really well how they work.

That’s the thrust reverser on a 737-200. This was a 737-700 where the moving parts are the sides of the engine cowling.

The pilots would have known if the engine ingested a person and they probably wouldn’t have sounded as casual about the incident.

It looks like the outside half of the cowling hit the dude and he bounced off. Imagine getting struck by a 130,000 lb object going 150mph.

Yeah, I wanted to add something to clarify that wasn't the only type of thrust reverser but clicked the submit button early. I'm living with it.

Yeah I don't think he was sucked in. They clearly found a body, and you can see the dents on the outside.

Right.

Still bizarre, first I’ve heard of suicide by jumping in front of a jet (if that’s what this was).

So, from the look of it, the man went into the engine?

He did not, or he wouldn't have been recovered. Came close, though.

Yeah a thrust reverser on an old 737-100/200 is the clamshell reverser design.

A reverser on 737-700 or NG is a cascade reverser design, using fan air only.

Another Trump-related death.

The autocorrect was actually Trump-related instead of typing Trump related.

How dare SWA, especially in Austin, assume gender prior to sucking they through the engine.
