I’m pretty sure a lot of them are former SF and the like. Could be wrong.

I have heard delta force and DEVGRU guys say the air Marshall gun qualification is the toughest in the world.
I believe I heard this from Jocko Willink. It has to do with the fact it’s all about shooting in a crowded pressurized cabin. You really can’t afford to miss. At all.

That would be the ultimate mistake of FAFO

The majority are just security guards.
I have worked with them and a majority of them actually work with treasury. Finding counterfeit currency is a big portion of the ss.

Academi as well. I am on a shooting team with a couple ex-Blackwater instructors. Guys are legit. I do not know about all of them.

She couldn’t. Gotta meet them quotas bro.

If you’re talking plainsclothes SS and you get close enough to “frick with them” they will frick you up
They will do everything possible to avoid an interaction, where do you people come up with nonsense like this?

I know they’re legit bodyguards but like if you frick with them a little will they just ignore you and take it as a joke or would they frick you up?
In 1988, I was checking my mail at the Union and not really watching where I was going as I headed toward the door looking through my mail. I was suddenly moved (shoved? picked up and placed?) out of the way and up almost against the wall by a fellow in a dark suit. When I looked up I saw Vice President Bush walking in our direction.
Vice President Bush smiled a little and said he hoped I wasn't too roughed up and that he hoped I had a good letter from home in the mail I was holding. As soon as he passed, the agent who had "redirected" me patted my shoulder and went on with the VP.
It wasn't brutal or overtly forceful, but it was a very firm and assertive action the agent took to keep me away from the Vice President who was on campus for a campaign rally seeking the Republican nomination.
The rally took place later that evening at the PMAC. GHWB said there that he had wanted to see a bit of the campus at LSU and that he thought is was exceptionally beautiful with the live oaks lining the quad and the streets through campus. Nice words from him, and of course I voted for him.
That's the closest I've been to someone who actually became our president. But to answer your question - the members of the Secret Service protection detail take their job VERY seriously. I was moved out of the way before I even knew what was going on and the closest thing I got by way of an "excuse me" or an apology for being physically moved away from the vice president was a firm pat on the shoulder as the agent turned away and continued with the detail.
They are far from a joke.

They're all Treasury. At the time it was decided Presidents needed full time security, the Treasury Department was the only federal department with LE agents suitable for the task. This predated the FBI by a good many years and the US Marshals had their hands full with other duties.

Not really that impressive, even the ones on DV details. Just cops.

I saw the SS in action once. Yeah wouldn't want to mess around in their vicinity. I was less than ten feet away from a former President when some commotion happened about 25yds away. I can still her the clicking of SS getting ready to cause major life ending damage.
