Kinda depends on whether a cop wants it for himself if recovered. A lot of cops won’t think twice about stealing a firearm.

I had a keltec 9mm (cheapo had been my truck gun for over 5 years) stolen from my truck out of my driveway in Rayne. It was recovered about a year later in a traffic stop in Rayne. I got it back and it had some rust on it. Had it cleaned up and it still shoots as good as it ever did (which is to say ok not great lol).....It sits today in my truck exactly where it did back then

It's going to be a pain in the arse and you may have to go through the DA's office depending on where you are located.

Some police departments make it easy and some dont.

If its recovered and is evidence in a crime you will have to wait until that trial is over more than likely.

Kind of sounds like someone who knew you had the gun. Was the thief checking all vehicles or did he target just your truck?

So you went into WallyWorld without a gun? I avoid that place as much as possible, once or twice a year I find that I MUST go there, when I do I'm sure as hell not leaving my gun(s) in the truck!

I got mine back three years later.
From the holster wear on the slide I’m guessing some BRPD carried it around with him while I was being told it was held as evidence

Since you are an irresponsible gun owner you should be flagged when you go to buy a new one.

Car wash guy stole mine. Taurus 9mm. About 3 years later got the call--it turned up in a street shooting. Took me 4 years to finally get it out of the evidence room.

It was still covered in dried blood.

Never cleaned it for sentimental value.

Shoot it to this day and show it to people that doubt me :)

I have a gun safe in my console. $200 and I never have to know I supplied a criminal with a gun.

I double check my windows and locks twice when I have a pistol in there. Not blaming the OP because frick a thief but minimal precautions would prevent a lot of these.

Just to be clear... Is that FOUR times or just two?

My XDM 40 cal was stolen from my truck in the driveway.
I check in with the detective every 6 months or so. However, I will probably never get that pistol back.

Yep. I've heard a few stories from people. Also, all the local departments were involved in gun confiscation during Katrina. Illegal, unconstitutional gun confiscation.

frick this, blaming law-abiding people exercising their constitutional rights, attitude.

This is what they want. Us to turn on each other and regulate our freedoms away from one another.
