Are Rebates, Reward Points & Any Other Deals A Scam?

I never understood rebates. If there is a $100 rebate on something, why not just give the $100 off upfront? I know they doing it the way it is done because they know a certain percentage of people will not send in for a rebate, but do you consider it a scam?
What about reward points? You spend so much amount of money and you get reward points, but nothing is free so you are paying for it in some form. And how many people will spend more just for the reward points?

I’ve never understood rebates at all so I’m not gonna try to understand.
Reward I feel can be good based on how they use the system. Like for the movie theatre here, we basically have to spend $100 to earn $5 back. However the Greg Norman site gives you 1 point for every dollar and you can get 30% off your next item fairly quickly. Just depends on the program I guess.

Reward points on credit cards are a bonus if you pay your card off on time. It’s free money basically. I shouldn’t have to explain this to another grown man

they're not scams. If used wisely, you can actually save.
If you start buying stuff you don't need because you get rewards or a rebate. Then obviously that's dumb.

No not at all. I'm actually making money at this point with the various credit and gas rewards my ol lady has set me up with. Going to Hawaii at the end of the year completely paid for in airline miles and hotel rewards
