Are Razors With Four Blades Really More Effective?

Seriously, do you really get a better shave with a four blade razor? Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it seems like the hair gets caught up in the four blades and the cut from point A to point B isn't the same. Does that make sense? For example, if I start shaving on a certain part of my face, when I start at point A, the cut is much cleaner than point B. I rinse off the razor, then again, it starts off with a clean cut then it doesn't stay consistent.

It seems like as the hair builds in the razors it affects the quality of shave. With all that said, does anyone see a benefit in multiple blade razors?

I do better with a single-blade safety razor than with multiple-blade ones.

Where do you get a single blade razor?

It's a safety razor. You can find them at any Walmart, or online for a little better quality. Im not sure where else, because I'm a poor. Buy the handle that lasts forever and a pack of blades now and then, and it saves $ in the long run, and I get a better shave. Obviously, I can't speak for everyone. Just my experience.

I agree, if I shave with more than one blade my skin just gets torn up.

I'll definitely check into the 200 pack. I didn't know they sold them that way.

The research is that the first blade gets something like 90 - 95% of the cut and the second blade gets the rest. The rest are all superfluous and marketing products.

The real advantage that Gillette and the like have is the dexterity of the blade. They can get the weird spots on your face (like right under your nose, along your chin line, etc.) better than the others. Still, Harry's and DSC are about 97% as good as Gillette, so I won't be buying Gillette until the start dropping prices.

With a single blade safety razor I can shave off a full beard without even trimming.

Can't beat a safety razor.

I use the 5 blade schick hydro. Occasionally, I use a 2 or 3 blade razor with for various reasons, and they seem awful compared to the hydro 5. I introduced my son to the hydro 5, and he agreed it's much better.

Here is my question: if you will have stubble in just a few hours anyway, why does it matter how close the shave is?

You only need one blade, nancy. Look into a safety razor and some Personna or some Gillette 7 o'clock blades.

I switched about 6 months ago.

A pack of 100 razors, and a tub of good shave cream will last a year and set you back about $20-30 and last a year.

A badger hair brush and a razor holder are about $30-$45 and should last 20 years.

4-5 blade cartridges will get a closer shave by pulling and cutting. It will last marginally longer. But you may get ingrown hairs and razor burn. Safety razors paired with the right blade take care of both.

As important is prep and shave cream. No canned stuff for me in years.
