Down 12 votes. Who wants to come get some?

You skinny cigarette smoking motherfrickers. Get a Camaro ZLI and decimate anything less than $300,000. 10speed auto for the win. Shifts faster than your old arse will. High 10 second quarter mile and 201mph.
Not sure what an ZLI is but I have to assume you mean a ZL1.
You are running a bit of hyperbole about its capabilities but I tell you what I will come with a stock car with stock tires that is under $300k and you come with a ZL1 even with the 1LE package and we can run them on any road track you choose and if you can decimate it (or just beat it by 1/10th) I will pay for your car, if my choice wins you pay for it. Deal?
The ZL1 especially with the 1LE package is a formidable track car but there are definitely cars under $300k that will embarrass it. One car in particular built in Zuffenhausen can run the Nurburgring Nordschleife 20 seconds faster than the ZL1 1LE and doing it with a N/A 4L 6 cylinder. The Camaro is a helluva bang for buck in the ZL1 but it can't play with cars that cost 4 times as much and well you are still driving a Camaro.
BTW it ain't as fast as you suggest in a straight line either, it is a mid-high 11 car on unprepped asphalt.
This is all moot since the OP isn't planning to spend $75 grand and if he was I doubt seriously a Camaro would scratch his itch.

The daughter of the French Consul General perhaps?

Why not just rent some cars every now and then OP? As an owner of a boat and a guy that does most maintenance myself on my house, cars, boats, etc…frick tinkering. I owned an International Scout 800 also. If you are retired and bored, sure. But if you want it for fun, rent imo. Idk, I just would rather grab the keys and go for something like a hobby car. If you can get one that requires very little maintenance, sure do it.
But drive around and look in peoples driveways and shite, as someone that’s done it the idea of tinkering on an old vehicle is an idealistic dream that’s not nearly as fun for most people than it seems.

I drive a work van or a SUV. My 7 series engine died and its just not worth fixing. So I don't have a going out, weekend car anymore.
I'm going out and dating and driving a Ford Escape. Which was fine for bringing kids to school and stuff. But it's too practical for the life I have now.
I've always been the person with the big bar and driving everyone around. I want a two passenger car for once.
I also won't have it for long and the prices are pretty stable so I won't lose.
I just totalled a 3 year old car and am walking away up $14k so I have unexpected money to spend. (I don't know how 3 year old car worth more than paid for it, so got lucky)
This will be a 3 or technically 4th vehicle for me. It's not going to be my daily driver.

They scream “I can’t afford a real Porsche, as does any Porsche that is below “S” level”

Unbeatable sports car for the buck.
Midengine yields superior handling to anything else you can drive including 911. The " ghey" aspersions are cast by those 911 owners who realise they paid twice as much for nothing but a backseat that is useless .

The 911 I can work on too. Just I was looking to spend 10-20k. A 911 996 cabrio 4 would double that
I never gave much thought to owning a Porche. I have always loved the look of them. After reading this thread, I did a quick search in my area. If I were inclined, such as you, I would pick up a nice air cooled 911. Price is where you want it. Of course I am a sucker for classic cars and those 911s from my teen years (early-mid 80's) were just gorgeous.
Anyway, good luck.

Where are you? I'm on the next flight out if you are finding "nice" air cooled 911s for 10-20k.

Such a bad take. The 1st Gen Boxter is close as one can get to a modern take on the original Porsche 550 Spyder. The boxter is quintessential Porsche.

Get you a nice used, low-mileage C7 Z06 with the 2LZ or 3LZ trim package. You will be happy you did.

Screw all these assholes, i am 911 guy myself but you should go drive both. It would be great if you could drive both for a day and pick the one that you like the most.
Roads matter, bad roads can punish you in a 911 as it’s designed to let you feel the road. So in places like Jackson Mississippi or New Orleans, I wouldn’t own a 911. You will be buying new tires and rims all the damn time. (I had a buddy that bought wife a cayenne in Jackson and she blew two tires and busted a rim driving it from dealership to country club. )
frick everybody dude do u want too. It’s the one advantage of getting old

What's even dumber is ole baw doesn't even realize there's other chevy products that will beat a ZL1 for well under 300k lol.

I figured I would let someone else have that low-hangin' fruit. Then again one never knows there may be some super secret "ZLI" designed by Zora's ghost that will run 6:30 at the N'ring and blast low nines on a gravel road. Probably not.
