Alpha is putting a trailer on a piece of land in a neighborhood when everyone else around you has built a house.

Why don't we build homes out of stone anymore? Where did we go wrong?

I agree with the OP.

So true. I just love to sit outside staring at my trailer, admiring its uniqueness. Mmmm.

So by your standard, what does that make someone who gets their arse beat to the ground by someone that lives in a neighborhood? An Omega?

Welcome to Pleasantville, f-cker...

Perfectly manicured lawns, desperate housewives and social mobility.

First world problems. Cry me a river

Nah, the worst is seeing your property values plummet because of trashy people that move in and proceed to frick up the place.

So do apartments and condos. I fail to see the problem

You sound like kindof a dick.

Neighborhoods are great for meeting folks and hanging out if it's worth a shite.

But as I tell my boys, buy land early and often to have a nice spread as they get older...like we enjoy now. They love the country and all the freedom it provides.

There are good things about each style, in different parts of your life.

1) house with land is good. Fun to have if you actually enjoy the work that goes with it. Sort of like your home is also your hobby.

2) Neighborhoods are useful if you've got kids and they can make friends and run around and play in a safe environment after school.

3) urban condo is cool when you're young, and again when you're old. You want to be near the action, without the upkeep.

Something for everyone. This is Merica, baw.

My father has 120 acres in the country with a nice house, pond and outbuildings. He keeps about 25 acres cleared and 7 acres mowed. It's a great place but requires a ton of work to keep it up, especially in the growing season. My 2 acres is fine for me at this stage in my life.

Necessary evil. Don't want some vinyl siding, vinyl window, 6/12 roof pitch with lick and stick stone trac home with garden gnomes and a 4x4 on blocks in my gated golf course community.

100 acres where I live would be in the neighborhood of 10M. I'm just an average baller, not OT.

While true in many trac home communities where developers/builders construct the same house with different elevations, that's not true of all hoods. I own the copyright for my plans/residence and if someone builds my house again and I'm aware of it, they owe me coin. Would never happen again in my hood based on not only the HOA review of plans but also the DRC (design review committee) made up of architects and designers who make sure this doesn't happen.

Not all n'hoods are created equal, same is true for tracs of land.

No shite. Nobody cares where you built your stupid house. Nobody cares where anyone built their stupid houses. This is so stupid.

Meh. My neighborhood is HOA controlled and it keeps the land values up and riff/raff out. I like my neighbors and it is a great way for my kids to make friends. I wouldn't mind a 2 acre place somewhere down the line when kids are older. For now, I travel too much for work to be in the middle of nowhere anyway.
