Are humans an animal?

So there was a pretty ridiculous discussion at my workplace reagrding this question. I personally was shocked by the number of people who said no and their justification. Am I insane or....

Googling this really shouldn't even be necessary, but I don't see how they can justify that we don't fit in the above definition

Haha, this is exactly what I was trying to convey but they kept saying b.s. like "we're different because we have a soul" or "There are no animals with the ability to have an imagination".
While yes humans are the most intelligent species that doesnt make us not animals, not sure what wasnt computing there. Louisiana gonna louisiana I guess. This also may be a generational issue I think.
