Are gyms typically sketchy business?

So I have a membership at a gym where I live. I'm going to be out of town for an extended period of time for work and they don't have a gym in this area.
I called to cancel and the dumb arse on the phone can't find my account in the system. I have him my name phone number and email. I can't imagine he couldn't find it with those 3. He said he would call me back.
Called again today and same shite but different dumb arse. Should I just call my bank and tell them not to pay these people?

Yes, but if two separate employees of the gym can’t find your account; then you probably don’t have an account and they’re probably not the dumbasses.

Shows up on my bank statement as a recurring payment. If I don't have a membership then they owe me some money
