For sake of comparison, exercise and a portioned controlled diet is
painful/difficult at first but beneficial in the long run.
Do you believe living a healthy lifestyle is also a terrible thing?
I don't know how this will turnout, but continued overreliance on our adversaries to provide us with essentials (pharmaceuticals, processing chips, rare earth minerals...) will be to our detriment.

Econ 2001/2002 should be requirement to be US Presidents. An f’n pity it is not.
It's not always about economics, there are real concerns about trade differences with China, as well as their shoddy record with human rights violations.

I dont think my can of corn comes from China
the can is made out of aluminum, the US imports a lot of aluminum
The can for corn is made of steel , not aluminum.
By the way we can make lots of aluminum here in the US.

I was looking for a 4 in/1 out HDMI switcher with digital coaxial audio output. I found one I liked on NewEgg. It was $35.
Shipping and Duties from China were $144.
I'll switch by hand before paying $144 to ship in a $35 product.

I ordered a new laptop, but realized a couple of days later I wanted the OLED screen, like $150 upgrade. I asked them to add it and they said no problem, but they would have to cancel my order and reorder it with upgrade. No problem I thought until they told me the new price would be $1200 more expensive. Screw that.

Why are you stocking up on water, is your tap water no good, you live in Mexico?
I've never understood this.

The ports of Seattle and Tacoma are grappling with a significant slowdown in container traffic, as trade tensions between the United States and China continue to disrupt global supply chains. Port officials warn that the situation could worsen, potentially leading to empty store shelves and economic strain on small and medium-sized businesses.

The slowdown has raised concerns about potential shortages of goods, reminiscent of the pandemic-era supply chain disruptions. Calkins warned, “For certain commodities, it’s probably weeks, not months,” before we see shortages.

Of course.
Perhaps the more important issue is how bad will the hit be to the trucking and logistics industries.

What about parts, equipment, and chemicals required to treat water to potable standards? Any of that come from China?
Some does, some doesn't.
Please don't forget lots of modern manufacturing happens in the following countries:
Spain
Thailand
S.Korea
Taiwan
South Africa
Australia
Great Britain
Germany
Russia
and others.
China may be one of the individually biggest by themselves but there is plenty of robust manufacturing elsewhere.

I wonder what these complainers said when we bankrupted small businesses during COVID lockdowns?

I’ll bet if you look back a few years, those same media outlets and X accounts were pushing masks, shutdowns, and thr COVD vaccine. Look back a little farther and they’ll be declaring the Hunter laptop story “Russian disinformation”, and a little farther about how Trump is a “Russian asset”.

I drove from La. through Memphis and into Arkansas today and I was astounded by the massive amount of 18 wheelers on the road. I’ve driven the route many times, and today was the busiest I’ve ever seen I-55 with commercial vehicles. If things are as desperate as you say, why the incredible uptick in traffic? To me it indicates a strengthening, as opposed to a weakening economy.

The movement of goods around the world doesn’t happen overnight. It will be weeks or months before the effects materialize.
And Trump will have changed policies a dozen times by then.

Well only time will tell the true tale. Prognostications of doom and gloom have historically fallen short from the left.
