Do Dentist not fill Cavities anymore? Went 8 months ago and everything was good. Go in yesterday and now he says I need 2 root canals. How is that even possible? And no I don’t do meth. It was 2 different dentist at Louisiana Dental Center. Seems like a money and insurance scam
Then you are going to the wrong dentist. Don't go to the chain dentist. get a second opinion before major work.
IF you feel like you are at a used car lot, you probably are.
years ago, i was going to a "reputable" dentist who was putting me on a 4 month cleaning schedule, and was trying to sell me add ons during cleanings. was trying to sell special mouthwash systems and expensive electric tooth brushes. after now issues and on separate visits both my wife and i were told we needs $2k-$3k worth of work replacing "old" fillings and root canals.
whent to get a second opinion and they said we had no issues. ended up switching dentists. That was almost 10 years ago, and in that time i had one filling that broke, and one crown put in, both of which were about 5 years after switching dentists.

I should have known when they said “ you have really good insurance”
You should have probably known after the name is "Louisiana Dentist".
I don't think you would make it to a Walmart. Would probably settle for a place that just says "food store".

Alot are that's for sure.
As others have said, avoid the big chains.
I also avoid the super fancy places (especially if they just opened recently). They are like any other business and need to recoup their capital investments for all that fancy equipment. And that doesn't come with a couple of routine cleanings a year.
Find the mom and pop shop who have been there for a while.

Quit going to the huge corporate dentist offices. Find a local office that people around town vouch for.

The whole premise of Corporate Dentistry is to achieve maximum production in the name of necessity and get a better pay check.
That is the sum mentality in a nutshell.

These threads come up every now and then. Had a reputable dentist around here tell me I needed to crown my cracked filling I got 55 years ago. It was one of two wisdom teeth I had left. The other two were pulled in the military. I said Doc why don't we just pull that bad boy. He said man don't go rogue on me. As the girl finished cleaning my teeth, he came back in and said he can pull it. No shite. But instead of pulling it right then, it took maybe 30 minutes when I did have him pull it, had to make another appointment to do so.

I went 20 year with out a cavity, a new dentist buys the practice, and all of a sudden I have 4.

I had the same problem years ago. Every damn time I'd go to the dentist (Barksdale on Coursey) he'd tell me I had a cavity or two that needed to be filled. The last time I went he told me I had three cavities and that I needed to call and schedule an appointment to get them filled. Before that happened, I got a new job and he was not one of my providers so I had to switch dentists. When I went for my first visit I was certain that he'd say I had 3 cavities that needed to be filled. Instead he told me my teeth looked great, no problems.
I also had to get crowns on my two front teeth that were supposed to last a lifetime. Twice I got them, and twice they cracked/chipped during the first six months. On the 3rd time I was contacted by the lab that manufactured the crowns and was asked to come in because they wanted to check the color to make sure it was a perfect match. When I went they told me that the crowns I was wearing weren't the permanent type, just long-term temps.

Yep. A lot of dental scams. After having bad experiences with the last two dentists I've been to with them trying to scam me, I'm apprehensive about going to the dentist. It's been a couple of years and I really need to go for a cleaning and examination, but I don't feel like trying to navigate through all the BS.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the OP can't seem to grasp that the plural of dentist is dentists?

What kind of issues did you have with him? He was recommended to me and I was thinking about going to him.

There's your problem, right there. Find a local dentist, ASAP.
I was in a bind several years ago on Black Friday when they were the only place open.
Without going into all of the detail, they ended up costing me thousands of dollars in dental work years later that could've been avoided.

Lol, they’re supposed to just have a room ready to roll for a surgery on demand?

I'm sure I've gotten screwed over plenty by my dentist office.
How do you think they can afford to pay the dental hygienist girls $45+/hr and the dentist 250K.
Just take a vacation trip to Mexico and have the dental procedure done for 1/3 the cost at the end of your trip.

Thoughtful reply. I have always gone to our family practitioner (the son of the doctor we saw as a kid) and they've always been fairly conservative, so I have to admit I never really thought about getting scammed by a dentist. Interesting.
