I don't capitalize god because there are lots of them all over the world. Its not a proper noun.
Christian God would be capitalized or the specific names of other specific like Hindu gods.

archaeologist nowadays are stretching what they find. Their evidence is supposed to prove something was there at that date, not say that it couldnt have been their before.
