Why would you not see that policy and choose a different section before the W date? That's a shitty policy.
Was this an upper level English class? There are like 200 different sections of 1001 and 1002. Why would you choose the worst one?

Attendance policy is stupid and really fricks non-traditional students who have to work full time.
Part of college is performing well in the subjects, and part of it is being responsible.
I dislike attendance policies. I would constantly skip if there wasn't one, but I had my butt in the seat if it was a requirement.
(Sometimes I was there sleeping, but I was there.)

Good luck in the real world, you're going to need it.

Hey man, I got fired from work. I was really good at what I did and everyone loved working with me when I went into the office. I got fired for not showing up at the office. What’s the point of showing up if I know I’m good at my job. Can you call my boss and explain this to him so I can get my job back?

Just curious to see if anyone has had success with this in the past.
Good luck.
This was a while ago but when I was at LSU, I moved into a class on the third day well within the exchange period where, by policy, professors were not supposed to give graded assessments. Well, this professor gave a quiz on the third day of class before I even enrolled. He gave me a 0 out of 20 and told me his policy was that if you were absent for a quiz, it's an automatic zero. I explained that I was not absent, I had yet to enroll in the class when the quiz was given and, made the point, that he violated policy by giving a graded assessment that early.
After talking to him a few times, he finally agreed to simply make it a 0/0 instead of a 0/20.
At the end of the semester, I had an A with the 0/0, but received a B. I asked to see his grade book and, sure enough, he had a 0/20 for the quiz. I appealed to the department head who, even while acknowledging that this professor violated University policy, refused to force him to change the final grade.

My attendance had no effect on my learning if I was able to earn an A average on the assignments.
And even if you are the smartest Mofo in your office, your boss will likely want you to show up to work. I forsee a hard road ahead for you.

Participation is factored into your overall grade, so if you don't show up you're already being docked points. Then to top it off they deduct half a letter grade for every absence that is unexcused.
So if you don't show, you're not only having points deducted from your participation but also your final grade.
Well it sounds like you know the policy, you're just too stupid to follow it.

Humanities teachers are the devil.
It's the only department I've ever had issues with.
They are also the only ones who have had ridiculous attendance policies.

You’re not nearly as smart as you think you are

I'm going to have a brain aneurysm of you don't take me from the C+ to an F.
Posted on 5/9/18 at 8:48 am to fightingtigers98
if you are lucky, you will soon get to high level classes where showing up is the absolute easiest part because the material is so tough.
lesson learned. stop wasting your own time.

Do you sunburn easily? If so, you get to keep your F.

I got an F in 1001 because I refused to hit the minimum word count on my papers. Didn't matter if they were good or not.
Just take it as a loss, and use your papers from this semester next semester

average of my papers was a 90, and I had an A in the class until participation was factored in which then brought my grade down to C+. I now have an F on my transcript because of this attendance policy.

This is kind of a ridiculous policy. The teacher is probably a self important a-hole.
Especially when I was broke and in college I wasn't going to the doctor to get a note to show the teacher every time I didn't feel well enough to go to class. I couldn't afford it.

Meh. This isn't the Manhattan Project. It's just a bachelors degree.

Probably not advisable. It is possible to get in trouble for plagiarizing yourself.

He went from a 90 to a C+ due to missed quizzes (basically an attendance check) and then the teacher doubled down with the ridiculous attendance policy.
Op chose a shitty class.

That's a pisser. In the grand scheme of things an A vs. a B is not that big of a deal, but it's more of the principle of the matter.
They know the only next step for you is filing a suit and they know the cost of that will far outweigh the benefit.
I have only heard of 1 time it being taken that far, but it was with a professional school admittance.
Basically the girl had perfect grades and test scores, but never worked a day in her life and had no experience in the field. She was denied entry because of that, but filed a suit and ended up winning admittance into the school.
Now the admissions standards are 90% grades and scores and 10% extracurricular.

The philosophy teachers at LSU should put a clause in the syllabus that you get a bad grade if you don't agree with everything they say
