Say what you will about Jackson, I do like living here. I have my little bubble and it’s been fine, till now. If the state doesn’t step in and right the ship, I might be heading out.
Didn’t all the money move up to Ridgeland?

I have three former co-workers who have moved to Jackson in the past year and a half. None have received a water bill. They would gladly pay.

And further north to Madison. I believe Gluckstadt is being developed now too. Everyone is moving further and further away. Pretty sure businesses are too but I could be wrong about that. I am there about once every 5 years, but I see quite a few people during football season that are from or live in the metro area.

Yep. Been to 39 states. Not prison, though.

I work in EMS in Jackson. It’s not a good situation here. I don’t live in Jackson though so I’m not completely affected by the water problem.

quote:Exactly. BR has fine drinking water (even if it is too soft for bathing). But Memphis has some of the best water in the world, unless you are drinking from a glacial stream in the Tetons.
The aquifer that feeds Memphis and all of western TN is widely considered the best in the US and top in the world.

The water treatment plant was built in 93. Not that old. Well, only half of it was built then. They doubled the capacity in the early 2000's and added a membrane side to it.
The plant is not old. They simply did not take care of it. The Health Department has been ordering them to fix things since 2016 but the city blew it off. The EPA came in in 2020 and did a consent decree but the city has repeatedly lied to EPA and blew them off.
Example: Fire at plant last year took out an electrical panel that controlled the pumps. Nine months passed by. Not a peep. A couple of reporters FOIA'ed the health department for the emails between the city and department and found out the city had not ordered the panel yet. The Mayor blamed the supply chain. Uh huh. It turned out the city did not order the panel until January - after the state gave it 30 days to order the part. The city did so on the 30th day. You can't make this up. The part finally arrive around May. Yeah, they went without that panel and its pumps for a year because they couldn't get off their arse to order the part for nine months.
THAT is what you are dealing with.

The city water system has been plagued with problems for years, including tens of thousands of residents losing water between one and three weeks during a 2021 winter storm.
Geee....I wonder where all that money from payments went? Damn sure hasn't gone to upkeep and maintenance.
