Anyone with great or great great-grandfathers who fought in the Civil War?

I had ancesters that fought on both sides.
Dont know much about the southern soldier except he fought, i know my great great grandfather saw action on the western theater. Pretty sure he was at vicksburg.

Several. One wounded and captured at Vicksburg. Another fought at Chickamauga, along with his son, who was a 15 year old drummer boy. Another was wounded in some skirmish in central LA and was addicted to morphine the rest of his life because of it. It came up the Red River on a steamboat, and when the boat was late, he would have withdrawals, or "screaming fits," as they called it.

My granny(great grandmother who lived to 98) had some uncles in Mississippi fight in the civil war. They were Irish and most of the stories were about boozing and gambling...no gallantry or Audie Murphy type shite.

Yep, one fought in the battle of New Orleans and was injured, another one disabled in a battle in Virginia.

Most of my family came to America long after that. But when my Aunt did our genealogy we discovered that one of our great great grandparents was in the Union Army, New York 103rd Infantry Regiment "Seward Infantry" and in fact rose through attrition to be commanding officer. It was almost decimated at Antietam.
That's the only one we found. The vast majority of my family tree was in Europe in the 1860s.

My great, great grandfather was in Company A, 1st Louisiana Heavy Artillery. He was captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. He was paroled shortly thereafter and then served in Company E, 28th Louisiana Infantry. He survived the war and died in 1907.

My grandmother had a picture of a soldier in uniform that I am told was he grandfather (so my great great grandfather). I've neber asked much about him although I've been told a good bit about her parents over time. Its sad as she is "losing it" so that info is somewhat gone. I assume he fought for the South.

My great, great grandfather fought in the New Jersey 33rd regiment. He took part in Sherman's March. He was a shoe maker from Germany, so he would have been valuable because so much was made from leather back then. I am not sure if he fought or just fixed shoes, saddles, bags, etc. I know he was paid $1200 to enlist and used the money to start a shoe store that was open until the 1970s. My grandfather lived with him when he was a kid, but no wars stories made it to me except that he fixed Sherman's shoes during his March to the Sea.

My 3rd Great Grandfather fought in the 14th Mississippi Calvary. He took his horse and slave named Henry with him to war, but one night Henry stole the horse and was never seen again. My 3rd great Grandfather wrote in his diary that if he were Henry he would have done the same thing.
I also have another 3rd Great Grandfather that was taken as a POW in the Civil War.
