anyone who says money doesn't by happiness is a damn liar
You don’t understand what happiness is. Money cannot buy you happiness, one on;y need look at the end of Howard Hughes’ Life to figure that out.
Now, it can make misery much more tolerable. :

Money doesn’t buy happiness, it greases the wheels to more easily achieve happiness.

Just look at Robin Williams. In the end, he couldn't give too shits about all the money he had.
Plus, no matter how much money you have, it's never enough. You always want more, are always chasing more. It's rare, if it happens at all, that someone gets to a certain amount and feels content. You always feel like you could use more, so it's a never ending race to get to the next level.

People who say money can't buy happiness have never been poor. It damn well can buy happiness.
And it isnt the same as saying "money = happiness", and has nothing to do with choosing between money or health. Its simply that money has the ability to improve your life and make you happy.

“Money doesn’t buy happiness.” Uh, do you live in America? ‘Cause it buys a WaveRunner. Have you ever seen a sad person on a WaveRunner? Have you? Seriously, have you? Try to frown on a WaveRunner. You can’t!

There is a quote I’ve seen attributed to both JD Rockefeller and Howard Hughes. When asked how much money would be enough the response was “Just a little bit more”.
Quite a telling statement.

you likely know more poor people who are miserable.
Here’s the way I look at it. Possessions don’t equal happiness — but money sure as hell reduces so many of the stresses that plague human society.

What a fantastic waste of money. Haha.

Somewhere in Africa there is a man with no property, no possessions and what we would call a rough life. With his family he loves he is happy and actually enjoys his day.
Somewhere in America there is a person with all the money in the world. Yet no one loved this person for who they are, they feel alone and used. They are contemplating suicide.
We see it all the time, Anthony Bourdain, Chris Cornell, Robin Williams.
Then we see happy poor people all over.
I think money can help you achieve happiness but money can also erase happiness.

It doesn't buy happiness, it buys freedom which if used correctly can bring happiness.
But happiness is a state of mind. Rich people can be miserable, but most poor people are going to be stressed over finance. It's all an individual thing.
In general though money does allow you to buy things that make you happy so long as your health holds up.

friends with a family in New York that have more money than God, my friend, the patriarch, runs in some high powered circles, the family, which is not young, does everything together so as not to miss out on an opportunity to suck up to my friend, and also to make sure they don't get out "out sucked up" by their other siblings, they go on trips together, go out to eat together, they have houses all over the place and they all go together, they hate each other and when they are out of ear shot of each other are brutal about how they feel about each other, a few years back one of the kids(in his 40s,) jumped out of his office on the 17th floor of the MetLife building he was so miserable with his life, his mother has never worn anything but black since, my friend is a very interesting guy to be around, but what a miserable bunch of rick fricks that family is
