There was a ring of 8 or 9 servers in Dallas busted several years back. They had swipers that were storing info. Cops figured out all victims had eaten at one of a handful of restaurants and finally solved it.

More of the fraud isn't so much of them adding to your bill but copying your credit card info and using it online or selling it online.

I remember Romans on Government had some sort of card skimming about 10 years ago.

Because it's the bank that loses money , is one of the reasons I don't mind handing over my CC info. I mean, how many people in this thread type their CC info into a website online ?
But yea, I was in Canada and tried to hand the girl my CC. She just looked at me really funny. Haha.
To be honest, I'd like to see USA make that move. It's nice to have the CC machine brought to your table. Then, just hit the 20% or 15% tip button.

Alot of places here are doing it now. Here in Tuscaloosa Metro Diner and Brass Tap do it.

That is simply not true.

Or just don't pay at all. Usually if you get real loud about how bad the food or service is then they take stuff off your bill. It's a cool trick to get cheap food at restaurants.

God forbid you check your CC statement for errors like a fricking adult.

Why? What would be the issue?

Most people in here have never heard of regulations "z" or "e" much less know the difference between them.

The one thing that I'm weird about is leaving the second blank copy of the receipt. Although this has never happened to me that I know of, I'm always thinking that someone would throw the tip that I wrote away and fill out a new one. So I bring the second copy with me and throw it away later every time.

Olive Garden has this silly on the table device where you do swipe your card there.
That's the way it should be done everywhere. It is annoying having to wait after you're done eating for the server to swipe the card and bring you the receipt.

Honestly, this seems even weirder. This sounds more like a blackjack dealer telling someone to place the money on the table rather than hand it to them. Like others have said, I don't view it as weird because I don't see it as a risk.
However, there was a story in Atlanta last week about people using skimmers at one of the movie theaters that serves food and drinks. The girl would capture the CC info and sell it to her friend/boyfriend. They're going to jail and the customers were credited for the fraudulent charges.
