Anyone that was flooded seen private donations come their way?

Seems like everyday I read or see that private companies and the good people of this country are trying to help people that were flooded, but I haven't heard of anyone receiving anything? Not asking for me - I have insurance, but none of my friends without insurance have seen any random donations to them in any form. I'm guessing the money goes to the Red Cross and they handle how it's spent?? Or maybe it's just a slower process? Hope these acts of kindness get into the hands of people that will use it for what it's intended for. Rebuild your life as best as possible.

Did your friends identify themselves to charities saying they're in need? Probably need to do that.

Having seen the inner workings of a "non-profit", I never donate. If I want to help someone I give an item or my time. Some organizations are scams from the start and some start out meaning well. But the legit ones eventually grow and start hiring professional administrators and that is when it turns bad. There are people who have become very, very rich running these places and they move from one to the next as they drain them. Don't be fooled by the numbers they publish, there is plenty of ways they siphon off donations behind the scenes.

Proud to say the company I work for (who will remain nameless) has stepped up in a big way to help my fellow co-workers and myself with monitary donations and supplies

The fraternal organization of which I'm a member has given both direct financial aid ($500 debit cards for emergency use; larger checks for more significant aid) and also manpower to assist in home cleanup.
I personally spent the Labor Day weekend shoveling mud, removing drywall, and re-wireing a house... At the direction of the organization.
So, there are groups out there doing good, but with so much widespread damage it is difficult to see the effects.

We have an employee assistance program within our company that has paid out a pretty good amount to those that were impacted. All contributions to the program were made from other employees.
I was cleaning out a house after the storm and had three different groups stop by and deliver a box of cleaning supplies, snacks, etc.

That's exactly what have as well... also our CEO stepped up and is matching all contributions 2-1
Needless to say, but there are some great companies in the BR area with great people running them

We have this as well and the committee that handles the fund handed out emergency gift cards to our employees that were affected.
When ownership found out that these were the funds that were used for the flooded folks, they replenished the funds used and also matched what was given out of their own pockets.
They also announced they will be organizing a day during the work week for employees to go and volunteer. Those that go will be paid just as they would be at work that day. Last but not least for every volunteer hour an employee works, the company will donate $30 to one of three charities of our choosing.

A friend of mine I work with received a $500 check from st. Timothy Methodist church in mandeville. She's also received gift cards and cash from friends and families not to mention a small army of people to help gut her house.
