Anyone ski the resorts around Seattle?

If so, how are they? I know Whistler is a 4 hour drive and I don't think we are willing to do that.

We used to ski Crystal Mountain at Mount Ranier back in the late 80's. I remember it as solid skiing at the time. Couldn't tell you what it's like today though.

I've done Mt. Baker, East of Bellingham. The last time I was there they had over 1,000" of snowfall.

Isn't Whistler like one of the best in the world? Seems like a waste not to do that one.

They are all about an hours drive correct? Trying to plan last minute Feb. ski trip.

That's nothing...Just suck it up and go ski one of the most famous mountains in North America

Alpental and Snowqualmie are supposed to be pretty good. Very legit mtns.

I just helped my brother move up there from Austin a few weeks ago, and asked quite a few locals about skiing while I was there. They all said Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass were good. Snowboarders seemed to prefer Crystal Mountain, and skiers seemed to prefer Stevens Pass.

It's worth it to go to whistler.

Great...thanks for the info.
ETA: Whistler sounds fricking awesome, but I might be bringing my young kids to Seattle and hiring babysitters while we hit the mountains. So travelling 4 hours both ways is probably not an option.

It's huge, and has an incredible vertical drop. Also has a gondola connecting to two mountains (Blackcomb)
Unless someone's taking a ski vacation, probably better off to stick with the local runs around Western Washington.

If I lived four hours from Whistler I would be there every weekend.

Change Seattle to Vancouver and problem solved

Stevens Pass has a ski area, but no lodging so you'd have to day trip from Seattle.
ETA: about 75-80 miles.

Vancouver is better than Seattle anyway

Crystal is less than 2hrs from Seattle. Stevens is about 1.5hrs away and Alpental is less than an hour straight up I-90. You'll want to check conditions.
Crystal is the highest and considered the best by us locals. The backside of Stevens is amazing but the lifts are slow on the back. Alpental is fun when there are freshies, but the base is only at 3,000 feet so it could be raining or not have as much snow.

There's supposed to be pretty legit skiing a close to Seattle. That 4 hour drive will wear you out.. I drove 4.5 hours to ski Friday and came back last night and I can barely keep my eyes open at work today

If you can suck it up go. I've been on a couple vacations there and it's awesome. That said, it would not be a day trip even with its awesomeness! Need at least 2 days so you can enjoy the apres-ski.

I lived in Denver for a couple of years and would board almost every single weekend (this was back in 99-2001). Last time I went skiing was in Wisconsin of all places, probably 7 years ago. So, just being able to board someplace that is light years better than Wisconsin but doesn't have to be Whistler type good is ok with me.
Lots of good advice guys, thanks.

The only major snow we had was the last night there and it was around 35" in a few hours.
