I wish there was a way to close that apartment complex. 95% of the issues in that area come from that complex.
Has anyone contacted the owner of the apartments to report the issues that are occurring and hold them accountable for the activities at the complex?

As long as the management company is cashing section 8 checks, they aren’t going to care.
So infuriating. What should be a nice, fairly walkable part of town is a total shite hole. My elderly mother downsized and bought a condo in a little gated community not far from there. Her neighbors are great and hyper vigilant, but I hate thinking about her stopping at the store or whatever around there.

Back around 2004 my Mom moved in there but moved out after Katrina. It went from family apartments to ghetto dysfunction in about 18 months. And it’s not like that intersection isn’t around nice areas and neighborhoods.
If demographics is destiny, that area is fricked.

I ran in Lake Sherwood this and ran behind the Coffee Bean at 6:15 this morning. Scary.

Back in the 80s & 90s, it was THE place in BR to live.

Took detour from my lovely home in St. George to avoid that assload of traffic
I was curious to see if it was in "God's Country" (aka the gorgeous hamlet now known as St George) but I see it's unfortunately in the Hidden Grove/Parkview East area which appears to be oddly cut out.
Speaking of, I always enjoy looking at the SG map (and seeing what dipshits appear to have requested annexing back into BR. Everytime I see something new and always have to check out what's there. This is just some house.. a big house... that obviously wanted to remain in the city. But just look at what had to happen in order to achieve this...

So now if anything happens and that one dude has to call the cops or call an ambulance or has a fire, they expect the BRPD/Fire/etc to show up...

That's funny to me, man. I don't know why. I just enjoy the thought of some guy in a robe standing in the driveway waiting for the BR city cops to come help him. Then they pull up like 40 minutes late. Or watching a fire wreck his house while the St George fire trucks drive by. Hopefully they yell out "Hey buddy, don't worry. The BRFD will be here as soon as they feel like it..."

This is ridiculous. What kind of deranged idiot robs a coffee shop? Praying for the employee's recovery.

We live near Episcopal but as the crow flies it's 5k feet. I was outside one night and heard a shootout that sounded very close. It ended up being at Sherwood Acres.
I grab lunch at that place occasionally when I'm working from home. They are nice and the food is good.

I'm at the back of Lake Sherwood. Your line just about goes over my house. As the crow flies, Coffee Bean is about 2500 feet from my house.
Every now and then when I'm outside at night (which isn't often), you hear a shot or two.

True. So follow the money trail and see what can be done to hold them accountable to provide a safe and livable environment for everyone. Section 8 housing starts as a HUD funded program. So reach out to:
LA New Orleans Field Office
Hale Boggs Federal Building
500 Poydras Street
9th Floor
New Orleans, LA 70130
SYLVIA PURVIS
Field Office Director
(504) 671-3000
Fax(202) 485-5728
to see what can be done.
FYI, it will not happen overnight, but if you want a change, you just can't wish for it....

I love our neighborhood, and it's convenient to most of BR, but the Sherwood/Coursey area certainly isn't what it used to be.

Parkview oaks was great when we bought here 14 years ago - all the rentals and group homes made it terribly crappy

My mom and sister lived in Sherwood acres until 2010.
It got really bad during Covid, just like the rest of this area of town - well maybe a little bit before

that will definitely do it. I know of one group home in the front of Lake Sherwood. You can tell because it doesn't look as well maintained as the other houses. The people living there have no skin in the game so why should they care what the yard looks like or if something on the house needs to be fixed. If I was a next door neighbor, I would be upset.
At the very front of the neighborhood, behind Smoothie King, an old office building was demolished a few months ago. There were homeless people camped out in it. I am very glad the owners acknowledged the problem and paid to have it torn down. The empty lot is for sale now but no one is going to buy it and build there. The area is dying.
