Manslaughter carries up to 40 and I’ll bet he gets at least 30 if that is the responsive verdict

His lawyer said he was robbed at knife point and the police didn’t follow up on knife wounds on his hands ? Does that mean they didn’t take photos? If he doesn’t have any clear photos I think the self defense claim is out the door. Cuz otherwise his lawyer is saying the guy died of drug withdrawal which I don’t think works as a self defense claim. I think I’ve heard several times that the victim was an uptown bum, and even if they are shuffling around with a blinking hp bar that doesn’t give u an excuse for killing him.

Interesting article. Does Ward have any shot at acquittal since he woke up with a knife pointed at him?

Well thats not good Garret.

Just hearing things around town this is a slam dunk and overtures of a manslaughter plea were not responded to.

Garrett's mother is a Thibodaux. Could be aunts/grandmother/etc.

We just have his lawyer saying that Defendant woke up to Victim “running his pockets” knife in hand. That doesn’t mean the same thing as knife pointed exactly. And Defendant was said to be drunk by the police. There are two witnesses who can give a sober account and be asked about did you see him running his pockets did you see a knife. Now those witnesses might’ve been fellow bums cuz you see a ton in that specific area who sleep in piles of trash and clothes. But if the DA thinks it’s got a slam dunk they’re not trotting out somebody who sleeps in the street even when they’re not drunk and waiting for Uber. Unless he’s got video or photo Idk abt self defense claim

Not saying the guy doesn't deserve whatever punishment he gets but it seems like they are taking this case way more serious than all the other murder cases they just dismiss. It is unfortunate, for him, that he is white or he probably would have been let go with a slap on the wrist.

I’m guessing the DA isn’t going to personally take a case unless the state feels very confident in it?

The kick to the head never looks good, even with claims of self-defense.

Not at all really… Louisiana DOC notorious for not being able to separate criminals… Angola doesn’t even accept some people if they feel you can’t live in a camp without protection… no chapters of the Aryan Brotherhood exists in Louisiana prisons only in small majority white parish jails

Imagine Ward having to face an Orleans Parish jury on a second degree murder charge, where you have a Perlis shirt wearing white guy who is accused of beating to death a homeless black man?

The moral of this story: be a normal, decent human being, and DON’T beat homeless black guys to death. Like 99.99% of the rest of us.

Then, you’ll never have to imagine it.

I know they try to separate the pedos but with as many murderers they have in there, I can’t see him getting special treatment.

He’ll be 30, not exactly a little kid.

The other moral of the story is to not try to rob somebody when they’re passed out or you may end up dead
