I feel like I’m looking to score some ivory tusks calling around right now.

Walmart.
1 gallon 'cleaning bleach'
5% chlorine
$1.77
you're welcome.
eta i literally dump a gallon in each evening (because you do it in the morning and the sun will burn out the bleach) and it keeps my pool perfectly balanced. why pay more? its all about the %s.

liquid chlorine
If you want a form of chlorine in liquid form you have to get it in a compound or compress it until it reduces to a liquid which is dangerous as hell.
You'd probably have better luck getting chlorine in the form of calcium hypochlorite which is in solid form and dissolves when it comes in contact with water which releases the chlorine into the water.

Liquid Chlorine expands to something like 400x it’s mass when it vaporizes.
And it will kill you dead as a door nail with a quickness.
You need some bleach. You don’t have the equipment or the need for actual liquid chlorine.

BUYER BEWARE: Walmart carries 3 "flavors" of liquid bleach
- "Pool Bleach" which is like $4/gallon and is 10% sodium hypochlorite
- Regular/low splash/scented bleach (blue label) which is 5% sodium hypochlorite and is like $2.99
- Green label "cleaning bleach" which is 5% sodium hypochlorite and is $1.77. The pic below is blue but in my area the container is green.
The pool bleach is back near the outdoor section, the 'regular blue' bleach is next to the clorox and the cleaning bleach *should* be nearby.
No need to pay almost twice as much for the same thing.

A few years I was the president of the board of a member-owned small neighborhood swimming pool and tennis court facility. Our chlorination of the water system to keep the water algae free was a tank (looked similar to a tank of welding oxygen) of compressed chlorine.
When our liability insurance policy came up for renewal and the insurance guy came to the pool and saw the chlorine tank in our pump house, he told us they would not renew the liability policy until we switched to a calcium hypochlorite system for purification.
He told us if the chlorine tank got knocked over and the regulator valve got damaged a chlorine release could theoretically kill everyone living a couple of hundred yards or so downwind from the pool.
We switched to calcium hypochlorite immediately.
That's why I advised the OP to get calcium hypochlorite instead.

2 years ago i threw out the hockey puck tabs and started using liquid bleach and baking soda and 99.999% of the time that's all i ever need.
i feel completely confident when anyone is swimming that my water is not loaded down with 100 different chemicals that could cause problems.
test your chlorine daily (if youre using bleach, you don't need to test FC levels) as well as pH/aciditity and you're good to go.

thats what he's talking about. pool stores carry 'liquid chlorine' as opposed to hockey puck chlorine but its just bleach. i think they're trying to make it sound fancy in marketing terms so you don't mind paying $7/gallon for it.
ya'll are getting way too hung up on semantics.
is it a concrete truck or a cement mixer?

Get more comfortable with a floatron pool ionizer and have healthy ions in your pool killing algae instead of chlorine. Save money time and have better water.

Wal-Mart It's called CLOROX. Hell go to Dollar Tree if you want it cheaper.

WRONG.
dollar tree is like 2% sodium hypochlorite. you're actually getting ripped off at places like that.
eta i've also noticed walmart is now carries a 'bastardized' version of clorox with 5% bleach instead of 8%, 121oz instead of a full 128oz/gallon and still charging like $3.50 for it.
again, get the 128oz/5%/cleaning bleach for $1.77. there is nothing cheaper anywhere.
THE MORE YOU KNOW.

Holy shite this thread............
I'm fully aware I don't want 100% liquid chlorine. Jesus.... That's just what it's called in the pool world. Home Depot and Lowes carry it but they both stock it outside so you never know what potency you're getting. They're starting to pick this stuff up though as it's about to be fall in their mind. A regular bottle of bleach is 6% and the pool bottle is 10%. I prefer the pool bottle as it's $3 and I don't have to look like a serial killer in Walmart buying 11 bottle of bleach to shock my pool.
