I don't have to look like a serial killer in Walmart buying 11 bottle of bleach to shock my pool

yeah i get lots of comments when i'm checking out with 15 gallons.

but do the math to find the best deal..especially if you're doing a full on SLAM (i assume you follow TFP?)

just punch the #s in here and actually i lied..pretty sure now that i think about it walmart cleaning bleach *IS* 6%.

Liquid bleach calculator

eta that website also shows you deals in your area on bleach if you put in your zip code.

eta2 while doing a SLAM you're looking for MAX chlorine vs cost-per-gallon, for me i throw a full bottle in every day so if the 6% keeps my pool perfectly balanced until the next day i don't have to worry about using 3/4 of a gallon or nonsense like that.

1 gal/everyday/$1.77 DONE.

thats what he's talking about. pool stores carry 'liquid chlorine' as opposed to hockey puck chlorine but its just bleach. i think they're trying to make it sound fancy in marketing terms so you don't mind paying $7/gallon for it.

That chlorine you posted has nearly 14x more available chlorine than bleach does. Paying $7/gallon for that stuff is a much better deal than paying for a gallon of bleach.

I'm just starting TFP as my current pool company has been awful. I've had $300 bills every month since May. I've been busy with work so I just didn't worry about it but enough is enough. I'm slamming this week to get things back to normal.

CYA is the single biggest hurdle to overcome. anything else in the water will generally go away after you become hardcore TFP.

your wallet will thank you and you'll feel like the Man taking care of your pool.

Yep. What led me to TFP was walking into Leslies with a water sample yesterday and having the kid run it through and tell me I needed $200 worth of chemicals. I said thanks, purchased the Taylor testing kit and walked out. I'd read that site a bunch but felt overwhelmed. I know the people that take care of pools for a living aren't chemists so I'm sure I can figure it out.

It's still probably a cheaper alternative when you consider the concentration.

That 1 gallon of Walmart bleach @ 6% sodium hypochlorite actually has only 3.6% active chlorine.

i'm a blowhard on here but i'm happy to answer any questions you have. make sure you get the TFT kit so you can accurately test for CYA before you do anything else.

if your CYA is ok, then the rest of this process is simple..just keep the pool flooded with high levels of chlorine, keep the debris cleaned out and check the levels when you go to bed and when you wake up.

once the level at night = the level in the morning, you're done and then you just keep a tiny amount of bleach in your pool going forward.

how many gallons is your pool?

got it, you get four bottles. those are little bottles (one lb each) so they're like 1 pint each but super concentrated.

a gallon weighs 8lbs.
