Directv is garbage now.
This switched to it about a year ago because I had Cox and my monthly bill was $320 & some change. If I switched to DTV it was $180 and some change.
The thing about Cox was that when I called about my bill pricing going up, they would lower it then gradually go up every few months.
My internet is better with AT&T, but as for as DTV.. It is a pile of shite. If it rains hard, it goes out... I don't like the onDemand. If you want to watch a movie onDemand it records it as it is playing. It freezes up on me every so often. I hate how they advertise throughout the menu.
They are shite.

Anyone know how to save $$ with DirecTV?
I just dropped those mf’ers and got youtubeTV. $50 month all local channels all ESPNs, SEC network, etc.

I had the same experience with them a few weeks ago. Called to lower my bill, was transferred to loyalty department and all they offered was $5 off and a one time credit of $25.
I just went through this this week, and it really does depend on who you get. I’m not under contract, and in a market that still doesn’t have CBS back. The first rep offered to send an antenna, and a one time $25 bill credit. I hung up and called back. The second rep gave me the antenna, free Sunday ticket, and lowered my bill from $114/month to $58/month for 12 months. I think help to be nice and just be honest and say you’re looking to lower your bill and get whatever else they can offer for free.

Call them and tell them your going to switch to cable unless they will lower their prices. Worked for my uncle once
I got tired of doing this every year and eventually subscribed to a streaming service.
Just tell them go top hell and sign up with a streaming service.

Once you are out of contact they will pay you to have the service.

AT&T has ruined DirecTV. I cancelled a few weeks ago.

So all I can do is tell you my experience
I finally decided I had had enough of DTV’s $160/month bill even though I have a nice package (
) and a shitload of receivers
Found out I could get Hulu tv with everything I needed for like $60/month. Called DTV told them I wanted to cancel, dude casually asks if there was anything specifically they could do to keep me and I said no and he didn’t push it any further saying it would work for another couple of weeks until the billing cycle ran out
The next day a different person called me from I guess their retention Dept basically begging me to stay. I told her I would if I could keep everything with my current package and got the bill down to $60/month and she said yes AND threw in free Sunday Ticket
I think the price is locked in for a year though I’m sure I can get it back down again
The best part about this is i learned they don’t cancel immediately as long as you have time left in your billing cycle so you could always call, bullshite them about cancelling, and if you don’t get a call from them within a few days offering you a deal you could just call back and say you changed your mind

And, unless their contract terms have changed, you re-upped a 2 year agreement when you said yes.
I get butthurt that they won’t even give me what new customers get.

just did this after 2 year contract. Directv lost ABC so I used this to my advantage and told them the audacity of paying more for less channels, one I can get for free without them no less, isn’t going to happen. Immediately renewed my contract for a year and about $10 lower per month.
The Cable/Sat providers are on their last leg. Streaming is huge. My little sister gives my parents $20/mo and uses their cable login/password on Roku and antenna for locals, all through her phone hotspot with unlimited data on family plan. Pays $60 total for cell phone, internet, and cable.

Every two years, we cancel and just switch between my wife and my names. As long as the email, name, and phone number are different it works. Doesn’t matter if it’s the same address. We keep getting new equipment and the new customer rate.

I'm cutting-and-pasting a post I posted on a Wisconsin board back in July. It works as a few of my friends have gotten the same deal.
quote:
Disregard this post if you are not currently or potentially a Costco customer.
Coming up on the annual dance with DTV/AT&T on getting my monthly rate reduced. I'm currently paying $60/mo. (+ taxes and equipment fees) for the Choice package- which includes HBO- and that would be expiring in August. Stopped by Costco this morning and the DTV rep at their kiosk approached me, I told him I was a current subscriber with two months left on my one year agreement but had older equipment. He then told me about a promotion for new customers where if you sign up through Costco I can get:
- my old equipment replaced with newer equipment (Genie 4k boxes, or something like that)
- the NFL Max Ticket for free for a year
- $200 Costco cash card
- all connection fees waived
- the same Choice package I currently have for a total $53.80/mo. for 12 months (includes taxes and equipment fees)
- Showtime, Starz, and Cinemax included at no extra cost for 3 months. (After the promotional period I will cancel, or I will be billed each month the price then in effect)
- HBO is included at no extra cost for 12 months
- EPIX is included at no extra cost for 3 months (not sure what that is)
Now, to get this promotion you need to be a new customer and I've been a DTV customer for 20 yrs. He walked me through a process with a loophole where I can take advantage of this deal where I simply had to provide a different name (I used my middle name) and phone number (used my landline). Very simple and I was approved on the spot, it took maybe 10 minutes. After installation tomorrow I call DTV and cancel my original account but can use my same credit card I used on my original account for Auto Pay and enter my original phone number in my contact info. The only downsides are I'm now on a 24 month agreement and I will be charged a $20 early cancellation fee. A no brainer with getting the NFL Max, $200 gift card and new equipment and I don't have to make the yearly call threatening cancellation next month. I also reduced my bill about $20/mo., my bill last month was $74.78. Not sure if you get all of the benefits above if you sign up online or call DirecTV directly. The Costco offer expires on 9/30/2019.

Explain these savings to me. I compared all the streaming services to my current U-verse account (also have phone and internet w/ ATT). You have to take into account the cost of internet in this discussion, because when you bundle cable you get significantly cheaper internet. After you take into account a la Carte Internet vs. bundled the savings come to practically nil. Details below.
ATT fiber: $40
ATT U-verse: $135 ish (includes HBO)
Vue: $50 + $15 for HBO
A la Carte fiber: $85
So we’re looking at a savings roughly of $20-25 per month. What am I missing here? Are y’all paying WAY too much on your cable contracts or are y’all finding a la carte fiber much cheaper elsewhere? Those are the ONLY two possibilities. Where are these savings coming from?

I’m stuck with directv here. My only other option is cable and it’s not viable. No other provider has mlb network or att sports southwest and I can’t do without Astros games or mlb network. I do have a fire stick though, so if I got mlbtv and used a vpn, could I bypass the Astros blackout in my area? I may go that route if that would work. Mlbtv is like 179 for the year but that’s less than my monthly directv bill.

New customer: Do they still offer the referral discount? Get a friend with DirecTV to give you their account no. and call the line for referrals to set up service. You and the friend get $100 off per month for six months or so.
Old customers: I called a couple months ago and said I've been with you a long time and want to stay, but I just need to save some money without dropping channels. The first chick can't really do shite (as I had read online), but she eventually had a retention specialist or something call me, and the specialist was able to knock a good bit off. I asked if she could do any better, and she did. I got over $1,200 off for the next year just by asking nicely.
