Dude used to always talk about bitcoin and y'all gave him shite. Bitcoin has gone from a guess of $200 in value of 1 Bitcoin to $4,500.

If he bought a decent bit, he could cash out as a millionaire. Anyone have a followup?

You purchase it through a brokerage and then use said coins purchased to buy drugs on the internet.

Way to lump everyone that uses Bitcoin in as a drug user. You can also buy used panties.

Always wondered what happened to that guy. He was definitely on the bitcoin train early.

I'm a commodities trader (natural gas) and in my shop almost every trader trades bitcoin in their personal accounts. None are drug dealers.

Stupid comment.

You can also "mine" for it with a fast enough computer by solving special equations. Each time you solve one you receive bitcoins.

That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge so someelse can fill in the details. Or go look it up.

What is entertaining is all the people on the money board who debated with him in a condescending way, then continued to post jeering threads about him as bitcoin declined, then became strangely quiet as the price stared rocketing up again.

yet again, still don't see where people are handing over millions for bitcoins, so If you can't cash out on a large scale like that it's no different than Play money

That is what actually scares me about BC - that's it's just a speculation run up.

Are there any metrics out there on transaction volume of BC excluding trading markets? I'd like to see what the underlying demand is.

How do you guard against that?

I always told Wikitiger back then that it isn't just drug users, it's also people trying to get their money away from banking systems they don't trust. Venezuela is in the shitter right now, that may have something to do with the latest run-up.

There's definitely a market out there to help rich people who live in collapsing countries get their money out. But so many of the BC promoters were saying it will just take over more mainstream currencies like the dollar and that's a bit of a stretch.

If you have a FT job and aren't putting 8% of your gross into bitcoin then you're a dumb arse, simple as that.
