I love this board. Two years ago everyone on here hated police and now they love them. And you see the quotes above that increased pay is needed to get better candidates but anyone mentions teacher pay raises and this place goes ballistic.

I'm not talking about Gravy. I'm being serious. Some of the young kids out there at protests could really be the positive change we need. Working within a system is much easier than against a system.

I’m being serious too. I really don’t believe any of those people would sign up to do the work. Police work is extremely tough. Often times there are no cookie cutter answers on how to deal with situations. Routine traffic stops can be deadly.
Am I saying there aren’t bad cops? No. But the majority are people like me, and I assume you. They want to do their jobs and come home to their families at night. But right now because of the actions of a few, it’s open season on Cops.
So I don’t think many of these protesters have the intestinal fortitude to put it all on the line. Just my opinion.

There are 2 very troubling things about this post.
Number 1 is that you can't wrap your head around the fact that there are hundreds of active posters on this board, many of whom share differing opinions.
Number 2 is that you can't comprehend that someone can actively be against police brutality and not like the current state of the police precisely because they don't get paid enough.
This is like someone selling their piece of shite car that was always breaking down and opting to ride a bicycle, yet you can't understand why they have their eye on a mid-range sedan that will last them 2 decades. They hate cars! They got rid of their old car because they preferred bikes. They are so schizophrenic! When the actual issue at hand is that they hate their shitty car, and would gladly take a decent working car.

Do cops typically retire pretty young or do they just get sent to a desk at a certain age? Seems like would be a pretty difficult job to do physically when you are late 50s or early 60s.

I have firefighters in my family, so I think the pensions are probably similar. They accrue 3% of salary towards their pension per year of service, (actually its 3.something). So after 30 years they can retire at 100% of their salary for life. So if you start in you mid 20’s, you could retire in your mid 50’s.

I started a thread in on the politics board about taking advantage of the current climate. Funding can easily be done for this with legalized marijuana. Have the politicians keep their greedy hands off the money and the 18k police officers in the state can easily make $65k a year
