Excellent latency and speeds for a satellite provider from what I have read. Elon sent me an email today saying my area would have service available in a few months. This will be a game changer for us living rurally.

This is an Elon Musk designed beta though.

I’m conflicted.

We signed up for it. It’s expected in my area mid to late 2021. Right now I have 20 MBPs if lucky. And no plan in my lifetime to get my any better based on my location. Would be a game changer for us. Hoping like hell it works out. $500 for the equipment plus $100 a month would be worth getting rid of ATT

That’s better than I can currently get. I only have Hughes Net available to me. We declined for a variety of reasons, but mainly because they required the dish be placed in a very specific location on our property and told us we would have to cut down a tree first

Yes and it could definitely be a game changer for those of us in very rural areas. I am pretty excited about the potential of finally cutting ties with our current best option, data limited ATT.

That’s what I’m curious about, is it portable. Size wise it looks like it could be and the setups I seen on YouTube look pretty easy.

I’m trying to get a rural piece of land before this really takes off and there’s a rural renewal. The biggest PITA today is likely lack of internet connection. Especially with remote work taking off. Trying to get in before prices become unaffordable in desirable locations.

ETA: the place I’m looking at has a target service date of later this year. Oh lord.

It’s definitely a portable setup and I would be tempted to take it on car camping trips, but as of now, it’s limited to a 15 mile radius of your sign up address.

We're in Western NC at least six times a year. Between our love of hiking, cabins, and whitewater kayaking, it's just the perfect place to look to live.

Just need to figure out how to flood downtown Asheville with bleach.

We avoid Asheville at all costs except for the VA hospital. The further you get from there and the closer you get to the gorge the better. It just depends on how rural you want to live.

Real estate market right now is insane.

I want my neighbor to still think the south won the war. Does that help?
