re: Broken Bow, Oklahoma Rec

Just returned, group of 12. Stayed at Pine Lake Resort. Barely fished the catch/release ponds (tiny fish) and only swam a few times as we stayed in the park most of the time. A house anywhere near main highway would be good.
More tips:
Drive through state park to explore different swimming holes, not found on any maps (that I could find). Hiking moderate/easy trails was fun, recommend Friends Trail. Also recommend renting a pontoon boat and spending a few hours on Beavers Bend Lake. Nice to beach it and just swim, and we pinned several off the path "beaches" we could drive to and hang out on.
Everyone needs water shoes if going in any body of water.
Parking pass is for the entire park, not just a noted/numbered section.
Grateful Head Pizza was great. Hochatown Saloon was good and if they have live music a fun spot.

Stayed in Maggie Valley in Nov (kids 3,4,9). Hiked a new trail almost every day. Was a good central spot to explore different areas.
If flying in to Asheville, and don't mind a drive off the direct path, Sky Top Orchard was a great experience after a flight.
The Biltmore in Asheville is awesome for all ages. Need at least 1 day. Anakeesta in Gatlinburg wasn't great for the $. We found the RMRR to just be meh, but to each his own (several took good naps on the train).
In Maggie Valley, Pops Butts on the Creek was great BBQ and the pancake place was a fun breakfast spot. SoCo Falls is short, and close by. Steep, but do-able for all ages. Did the museum and shops in Cherokee - not worth the time IMO. Do more in the national park.

App is awful. Had the same issue not being able to authenticate TV provider. Uninstall ESPN app from device, re-install. I used this on 2 devices this week successfully.

Yes and it could definitely be a game changer for those of us in very rural areas. I am pretty excited about the potential of finally cutting ties with our current best option, data limited ATT.

Posted a similar, though longer, comment on my personal FB questioning the rationale of the Diocese's premature decision and got a call from the principal. Yes, seriously. I shouldn't have "shamed" the diocese, etc.

If you haven't yet, you need to watch yesterday's video on FB from the NOLA Corps Col. Michael Clancy (District Commander) addressing some common questions....relationship between flow and stage height, upstream effect (none) of spillway opening and his take on dredging. The last 6 months of dredging at the mouth of the MS River resulted in that dredged area filling up in 11 minutes.

Is water there all the time?
No, on a "normal" year, the forebay wouldn't have water in it until May/June, if at all, and then dry up naturally by the fall. Most years the farmers hedge their bets and plant crops in the forebay. Over the last 5-8 years, however, the water has overtopped the "potato levee" and flooded the forebay.
If memory serves, the water has been there since the fall.

It will probably be delayed a few more times, just looking at the forecasts and don't be surprised if it doesn't open at all. I hope I'm wrong.

In my humble opinion, these breaches are the reason the river level has dropped, temporarily, and causing a delay in the opening. Eventually, that water will head back this way.

I heard two interesting thoughts yesterday regarding the opening/delay of the opening (yes, trustworthy sources):
1. The delay can be at least partially attributed to our litigious society. If the trigger numbers (on paper) are not actually met by the river, and the Corp opens the gates and the land floods, an attorney will have a field day. (regardless of the flooded land being in a designated FLOODway)
2. the Corp will begin opening the gates if triggers are NOT met only when there is a threat to overtop the actual gates (bt gates and roadway). Should the water overtop the gates this is considered "uncontrolled" and that defeats the purpose of a "Control" structure.

It's been at that level for months. It's actually dropped in the last few weeks.

There are pics going around of a levee slide up around deer park near Blackhawk. Ill see if I can get them posted
I passed there yesterday and water was higher up the levee, and there were no corp or construction vehicles to indicate a fix was needed (which I assume they'd be working on, even on Fat Tuesday). I'd go with old pics.
Yesterday's forecast was up .5' but still no reason to believe they'll open Morganza. Old River Control structure had about 9 gates open (shorter structure) and water that was being pumped was volatile, to say the least. Longer structure had more gates open, with more of a steady flow.

As a Pointe Coupee resident, our concerns are elevated this year due to the saturated ground and how early in the year we have reached the current levels. Regular seepage along the levee seems full-blown and folks are noticing homes shifting, decks cracking, etc.
Talking to neighbors about packing "go" bags, prepping home valuables and tying boats to the porch.

re: Honeymooning at Sandals Regency La toc in St. Lucia in June
Posted by lsuKountRy on 2/21/19 at 3:03 pm to classicgold
Went in 2010, about 1.5 months after a hurricane. Their infrastructure is awful, as you might expect. Any hard rains caused massive flooding around the resort (within elevators, etc) and the towns.
The drive in is pretty curvy/scary/long. If either of you have motion sickness, it's rough.
We zip lined (horrific/scary experience due to rain - see infrastructure above), but it was standard tropical views, and we property-hopped within the Sandals properties, which was a nice change for a day. I personally would not recommend leaving the Sandals resorts.
Overall, the resort (restaurants, pools, beaches etc.) was very enjoyable. I highly recommend a couple's massage.

4 yo Boy/Girl twins. Similar differences as yours (minus the forging - can barely write his own name), which I'm told is "normal" behavior. The girl is really easy (for now). The boy is testing my patience. The homework struggle is real, says its "boring." Talks back, defiant, wants to be outside only. Digs, climbs, etc - last week caught him jumping from powerwheels to clothes line, trying to hang on the line. O and he calls me out regularly - can't get much passed him and is extremely observant. So, not worried about him at all.

I've been several times, including last weekend. Prior to the rodeo, the arts and crafts booths (items created by inmates) are open. Very repetitious. Can negotiate pricing better on this fourth weekend. There are a ton of food booths - nice variety. Inmate bands in the "food court" area. We arrived around 10:00 and after walking around and eating had an hour to kill before the actual rodeo. Prepare to wait a while to get out.
