My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. She was 40 at the time with no family history of it. Doing great now.
Found a lump and went to doctor. Doctors figured it was a cyst but after mammogram and ultrasound came in and told us it was probably cancerous. Had a biopsy to confirm. Things started happening fast with doctor appointments. Saw surgeon, oncologist, etc. it hadn't spread but she was diagnosed as 2a. Started chemo in December of 14 for 5 months. Double mastectomy in may of 15. She is doing great now.
She needs to go get it looked at now. It is very survivable but you don't want it to spread. Most likely it is a cyst but get the piece of mind.
We have 3 kids and it is a lot to digest. We got amazing support from family and friends. My wife was strong theough it all.

Go to the doctor asap. FWIW, my wife is a breast cancer surgeon.

Early detection is the KEY, get to a DR. today
ETA, My wife does mammograms, I ran this by her and she said if she was you she would have made an appt. for her today.

Go to the doctor ASAP. Yes, it may just be a cyst or fibrocystic breast changes, but you don't want to chance that it is something else. It is true that caffeine can affect fibrocystic changes, but that might not be the case here.
I have had problems like this since I was in my 20s and luckily they have all turned out to be nothing serious. I had a lump removed a few years ago which scared the shite out of me. There is nothing like hearing the words "abnormal mammogram" on the day your childhood best friend dies from breast cancer at age 41. Several members of my family have had breast cancer so my doctor is extra cautious because from what I understand, these types of lumps sometimes can mask other true cancerous lumps.

if she gets upset she gets upset get her to her doctor today or call her dr office and ask to speak to the dr you may have to relay this to the nurse but tell the doctor what she said about going to the dr and ask the dr to call her and talk with her she can get mad all she wants but you may have saved her life. Or any of her girlfriends may need to talk to her.

I've had family with breast cysts, benign tumors and breast cancer. Most likely it is a cyst but it needs to be checked.

My girl friend, now fiance just got thru with all her treatments. She found a lump and procrastinated a few months before getting it looked at. When she finally did, the doctors initially thought there was nothing to worry about based on the lump and her family history. Once the biopsy came back, surprise it's cancer. Fortunately for her it was still in early stages. The treatments and surgeries still suck, but they can get progressively worse.

Go to the Dr ASAP - don't play around with this! My sister was 36-years-old when she discovered a 4" lump on her breast...I don't want to scare you, but 2 years later she passed away. Trust me, early detection is the key to curing cancer...good luck and I'll pray for you all!

My mother had breast cancer and had a mastectomy in her late 50's. She turned 93 last April. Tell her to go to the doctor find out what it is and take care of it. It may be difficult but with support she can live a nice long life.

Have her go see her Dr. asap and get a mammogram at the very least.

We are 2+ years past the surgery and she is doing great. Doctors said she bounced back faster than anyone they have seen at her age - 6 months after surgery they said she was responding and recovering as well if not better than most patients 12 to 18 months out.

Tell her to call her doctor. I found a lump about a month ago. Called my doctor and was in that day. Two days later I was in for a mammo immediately followed up by an ultrasound.
Turned out to be nothing, but not something that should not be put off.
Lots of things. Could be a cyst. Could be a fatty deposit. Could be anything. But, she needs to see her dr.

My mother and her mother both survived breast cancer scares. They were both aggressive with the treatment.
Options obviously include lumpectomy and mastectomy for the most aggressive. This is a hard cosmetic choice but breast reconstruction with an implant after the cancer is resolved can make it a lot easier to deal with emotionally.

She absolutely doesn't want to see a doctor because she is scared. That's no excuse. She needs to see a doctor ASAP. If she resists anymore, tell her my wife's story. She came over to me crying one night 6 years ago and told me she felt a lump. When I asked her when she first noticed it, she said between a month or 2 ago. She told me was scared and was hoping it would go away. She figured it was hormones. We had recently found out that she was pregnant. We scheduled her an appointment the next day. After 3 years of surgeries, chemotherapy, and 3 different clinical trials, she passed away at the age of 30. Not many days pass when I don't wonder if starting treatment a month or 2 earlier would have made any difference.

I know this was directed at the OP, but I got my test results back this afternoon from my recent visit with my breast specialist, and my latest problem area came back "benign" so that was a relief. Sorry to hijack, I just wanted to share that it sometimes can be good news too.

It could very well be absolutely nothing. Women get fibroids all the time that are nothing to worry about. They can literally be caused from a bra wire or even caffeine intake. HOWEVER, I would always recommend going to the doctor to have it checked because of course there is always a chance it could be something else. A friend of mine put off a sore spot on hers for months that ended up being cancer. She's completely fine now, but if she could do it again she wouldn't have waited. Plus, it's quite comforting when the doctor says, "Nope - that's just a fibroid. Nothing to worry about."
