Pauls Steakhouse is good and it's on the river. There's also lots faux German restaurants all over the town.Just don't go in October.
Also,if you have the time you should go up to Lake Burton about 45 mins away.Beautiful place and you might run into Nick Saban if you go in July.

I have family in the area so I've been there several times. Frankly, it's overrated and traffic sucks. Just a bunch of fake German restaurants, shops, etc.

Unicoi state park is nice.

Go to Highlands, NC. Much better than Helen. No McDonald's or Burger King. Great drink and food. I went there the first time 15 years ago and go back at least once a year.

Its a cool little town to see. I wouldnt go too far out of the way for it, tallulah falls isnt far from there and IMO more worth a stop.

Helen is great for children and women. For men that get dragged up there, trout fishing is all over the place. But it’s not trout season right now, you’d be largely restricted from fishing most places in the area.

I got dragged up there for a bachelor party. It's not the worst place in the world (plenty of bars, natural scenery is nice, and SEC sororities seem to like doing the whole tubing thing up there during the Summer which makes for nice people watching/cavorting) but I also can't drive through there without the bavarian architecture making me feel like I'm hungover.

Blue Ridge is a great place.

There are mountains in Georgia? I've always called them foothills.

It's novelty beautiful but the real attractions are A.Ruby Falls and Raven Cliff Falls a few miles North. Prepare for long single file lines of traffic through on a Beautiful day like today

What's a fake German restaurant?
A wing and beer bar made to look like a goblin nestled next to the creek/river bend selling the worst premade reheated "schnitzel" this side of Pennsylvania.

Helen is trashy. It’s a fake Bavarian village with a bunch of wood rot all over everything. And you can count on there being a bunch of bikers just about any time you go.

Make groceries while your there too, it's the coolest grocery store ever!

Why settle on Helen or Blue Ridge when you could travel just a little further into WNC at higher elevation? Bryson City beats both of those places by a long shot.
