The dudes suggesting captains chairs - could you enlighten me why that would be a good choice?

Captain's chairs give you better access to the third row. For a lot of reason, seating all three kids in one row is not always feasible. Having some separation is good, in my experience, and being able to access the third row without hanging over the back of the seat while the car is moving is very handy. Things like changing diapers, feeding a kid, trying to calm a crying baby are always easier if you can move between the 2nd and 3rd rows and have some separation between the kids.

The captain's chairs also have the shoulder strap to better secure your car seat.

If you are thinking of taking the tribe cross country. I would suggest the Family Truckster.

THE Audi Q7 and Q8 drive like a euro touring sedans but rear seat access is severely restricted .

Q7 second row is absolutely massive and is one of the few vehicles that has Latch in the middle seat. You can easily fit 3 car seats across in a Q7.

Also, Q7 second row layout isn’t the traditional 40/20/40 split. It’s 35/30/35, so the 3 seats are about the same size.

It’s a great crossover for car seats.

I refuse to buy a van

Hate to break it to you but you and the mrs are not going to be cruising up to any valet parking anytime soon, so unless you’re embarrassed to be seen in the carpool line in a van, you will be ok.

I don’t have triplets. I will Have 3 under 4.

And you couldn’t do captain chairs in the second row. I have a Tahoe with captain chairs and being rear facing makes it impossible to even access the third row.

That makes sense. Appreciate the explanation. I only have one and am already thinking about a minivan

I drive a truck.

I would prefer all three seats to be in the second row as well

I can fit 3 Diono car seats in the back of a Grand Cherokee.

We had a van once, it fricking sucked. Getting a kid in the middle seat of a bench 2nd row is easy peazy.

Captains chairs are a terrible idea for kids in car seats.

A van makes perfect sense when the car seats are done, but until then it's hell. Even forward facing seats require you to climb into the vehicle to buckle up Jr in the 3rd row. That's hogwash.

I’m speaking from experience where I had two full sized toddler seats in there. It didn’t work well AT ALL because child number 3 was cramped in the middle.

And buckle themselves in at 3 or 4?

Leaning over to buckle the kid in the middle of a Grand Cherokee is nothing. We can reach all 3 kids if necessary too.

When we got the van everyone told us we'd love it. We hated it. I'd never consider it unless they were much older.

Agreed but apparently kids have to ride in a booster until they’re like 9 now so maybe we can switch to the Sequoia in a few years

I have 3 car seats in the back of a two door VW GTI. Two convertible and one infant. I’d recommend a bigger vehicle.

Yeah my kids are finally able to buckle themselves in, but they can't unbuckle themselves, so a van would still be a grind.

Bench seat ftw.
