They use lasers on your spine?
That seems like something cool to watch happen. To someone else.

I know someone who had a bunch of issues. She went to Laser Spine Insititute in Tampa and had nothing but good things to say. I still recommend a minimally invasive spine surgeon because insurance doesn't cover most laser surgeries.

I'm not exactly sure of the procedure - it's my stepmom. Her back is seriously F'ed up. Herniated discs, bone spurs, pinched nerves. No traditional surgeon will cut on her so we're looking at this as a last resort. She is in constant pain and can barely walk. It breaks my heart. They are reviewing her records now to determine if they can help her.

They don't actually use lasers to perform the surgery. They perform minimally invasive surgery like many neurosurgeons perform

My mom is in pretty much the same shape. She spoke with LSI in Tampa this past week and is waiting on an appointment.
It is very expensive and insurance doesn't cover the entire procedure.

Funny this thread comes up today.
Bumped into my buddy today in a local store. He went to Tampa 2 weeks ago for some spine-nerve issue that had put him in constant pain and now he is back walking around after 2 weeks.

I know a physician (radiologist) who needed spine surgery and chose Laser Spine Institute.
Nothing but good things to say about the experience.

That is great to hear. I am praying that they can help her. We're not expecting a miracle - just want to alleviate the pain and give her back some mobility. She's in her late seventies and traditional neurosurgeons don't want to operate on her - not exactly why; they just say she's not a good candidate for surgery. She told the last one, she didn't care if the surgery killed her; she was willing to take the risk.

I've been involved in a few of their procedures by way of their surgeons and equipment coming to the surgical hospital I used to work for.
They were innovators in some big time laser procedures using scopes instead of major open type procedures. The Dr.'s I saw were all really good, spent time teaching/training others on the procedures and giving lectures to groups when taking time out of the actual surgical setting.
The only problem is really the same kind of potential as any spinal procedure: Oops! = screwed for life. The Dr.'s I knew though sooooo very aware they ALWAYS erred to side of extreme caution. They were all wealthy as any of us can only imagine, so they are really doing it to help people. They'd rather cancel and refer to open surgeon than risk a patient.

Terrible reputation.
Use a Neuro surgeon if you need anything done on your spine.

Could you be more specific? I looked up there reviews on a consumer website and the positives signicantly outweighed the negatives.
I think the folks at LSI are neurosurgeons. The traditional neurons won't operate - so we're researching alternatives.

Why won't they operate?
Idk if you're in BR but the Spine Hospital of LA does laser spine surgery

Broke my back trying to get an appointment but was disappointed by my experience.

So weird you asked this because my friends nanny just told me yesterday about how much it helped her husband. I know it sounds weird but I am not BS'ing, we were talkingw about where I am from and she said they had to go there for his surgery and it was great.
ETA: She spoke great English but probably is, or at least was, an illegal alien so take it FWIW

I think it's her general overall health. She had a double mastectomy, radiation and breast reconstruction surgery in the past three years. Basically , we get no explanation beyond "not a good candidate".

All I know if they just built a new building so they must be doing pretty well.
