This was years ago, but I remember someone posting the video on here. It was a documentary of this guy whose parents groomed him to start preaching when he was like.. 4 or 5. When he would get up and start preaching, he said that the older women would pull their pocket books out and just start throwing the money into the baskets.
Anyway, he pretty much explains how the whole "scam" works. Everything from the secrets to "saving" people and making it look real to knowing what to look for in the audience when calling people up to be saved. Its similar to how gambling works. People keep gambling and gambling hoping to win, but the bigger attraction is the feeling. It's exciting, its a rush.. And that's what these churches provide.

No different than politicians or CEO's. Greed is good.

But it's amazing how the people outside of the US love the man.
There are a lot of people in the US that love Jimmy too. Just watch their Beg-A-Thon every two weeks and hear how much money is pledged just from this country. Mind blowing.

There may be an argument for "greed is good." There isn't an argument for "dishonesty and corruption is good."

Without a doubt, but I think its similar to what happens to many priest. Over the years their views become skewed.. simply because there is a difference between being taught something and experience, but TV evangelicals have to be on a different level.
It takes a lot of "i don't give a frick" to get on tv or radio and beg everyday, just barely getting by type people to send whatever they can afford and then throw it in their face by living like a boss.

And Pols and CEO's(and boards of directors too, mostly made up of pols or former pols) are honest and not corrupt?
There is no argument for greed is good. None. It's dishonest and corrupt to its core.

oh i can argue it

not all of it, but of course if you define it this way, you can say "there is no argument"

there isn't. By the very definition greed is immoral, dishonest and corrupt. Simple.

no, no, and no
greed is an extreme desire to accumulate some item
now, when some people engage in this, they become irrational and engage in "dishonest" or "corrupt" behaviors
irrational anything is pretty much always bad. greed is no different

and still can't do the church thing. At 60, it's probably not going to happen again. I just can't get into all that BS.
That's because that's exactly what it is. BS. Churches are religious social clubs organized around a god made in man's image. You have to ditch religion to find true spirituality.

Older friend of mine from Jimmy's home town said he could play the piano better than his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis.

I know back in the day he had a wave pool in his backyard and he could turn it on with his phone in his car. That was way back cutting edge technology.

I think you are thinking of MarJoe

He is an interesting guy. Obviously extremely charismatic, and it would seem created something of a cult of personality around himself. It's highly distasteful to me how he and his ministries are constantly asking for money, but it's hard to deny that he is great at what he does. Also incredible that he is the cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis.
What's the difference between Jimmy Swaggart and a pick-pocket?
A pick-pocket snatches watches, Jimmy Swaggart watches snatches.

Oh I know there are a lot of people in the US still under his spell, but the international money is what is mind blowing.

Some people want their preacher to live better than them. It's a sign that God is rewarding him. They're happy to contribute so he can have a nice car, a big house, etc.
I like to call those people the willfully ignorant simpletons of society. But it's not my money.

To some degree religion is good for society as a whole. In many, it helps develop some type of moral compass and gives people something bigger than them to live for.
I am not atheist. I do believe in a higher power, however; its one I don't have an exact definition for, but once I became old enough to even care enough to question what I was taught growing up (I am Catholic and nothing was ever pushed on me, but when I say taught I am referring to the standard things like adam and eve, noah, jesus, one day the world will end and when it happens it will involve a bunch of bugs and other shite) it just seems like, with a little rational thinking, people would not be so easily sold on all that crap.
