in the last three months before the whole thing with my heart I had to resort to trying to sleep in evergrowing sitting up positions because it was becoming harder and harder to breathe. At first I could sleep in my recliner, then I could sleep in my recliner but without it reclined. Then I had to move to the couch and try to sleep sitting straight up. By the last night before I checked into the hospital I spent that night sitting on the corner of our coffee table leaned forward in an unsuccessful attempt to both breathe and sleep. Needless to say, from late July to early November of 2016 I got very little sleep.
I'm a back and side sleeper. I have sleep apnea and stomach issues that cause reflux, so I really need to sleep with my head up.
Not sure if this will help you or anyone else here, but I recently bought a glideaway adjustable bed, the ascend model. It's pricey as hell, but it adds a tilt feature that I haven't seen in any other adjustable. The entire bed will tilt to get your head up, so being a stomach or side sleeper doesn't matter and you still get your head 5-6 inches up or more if you want. Doesn't feel like you will slide off either. I usually go higher than the recommended 5-6 inches and then raise the legs up a bit to give me a small ledge to ensure I won't slide at night since I am on my side or back. The ledge doesn't mess with my spine at all and I have been getting great sleep with it.
They have them at Murmaid Mattress locations or this is the cheapest place I found it on the net: LINK

is this some kind of song lyrics? or a romance novel?

I was always a stomach sleeper, then had cervical fusion of three vertebrae. Can't sleep on my stomach anymore because my head wont turn far enough to side. It's been 9 years and it's still hard to fall asleep.

Hahahaha
Seriously, it's been hell for months, can't sleep and my neck and upper back killing me all day.
I tried the pillow under the knees and I slept till almost 5 - that's the most sleep I've gotten in ages. I'm so happy I could cry. I can't thank you enough Mir! And I humbly retract that rude bitch comment. I really have no clue if people refer to you as a little bitch; I just made that up. I am usually not a mean person; but as I've already mentioned, I was in quite a bit of misery. Miserable enough to start a thread about sleeping habits on the OT. It didn't go nearly as badly as I feared!

Well, while I wouldn't exactly use the phrase "little bitch" I am a woman.

Stomach sleeping myself and had to switch to back (usually side). Lower back kills if I lay on my stomach arched up watching tv for like 15 mins. Laying straight on my stomach hurts when I wake up.

I wish you the best of luck. I am getting an MRI for a possible fracture in my ankle and if I end up in a hard cast I have no clue how I will sleep. I always sleep on my side and move between my side and stomach. I don't know how it would work with a hard cast. If you find out any secrets please let us know.

I usually have to start out on my side to get comfortable and eventually roll on to my back and then doze off

You'll get more comfortable over the course of a week or so with the pillow under your knees and sleep much better and longer
Glad it helped

Darth, I hear you. Fighting heart failure is a bitch. I used to sleep on the left side of the bed. After coming down with heart failure and spending many months sleeping in a recliner do to not being able to catch my breath. That really sucked. I had to swap sides of the bed, sleep with three pillows. Still have to do that. Most of the time, I have to lay on my right side. If I lay on my left, I loose my breathe all together.
Have you seen a cardiologist about your Congestive Heart Failure? Once it gets to the point of affecting your ability to breath while laying down, it's gotten pretty serious. Don't wait to get this addressed. The longer you wait, the worse it will get and the more damage will be done to not only your heart but things like your liver, kidneys, and even intestines as well. Seriously, don't wait.

Has your My Pillow made any difference? I have trouble sleeping at night often myself and I think it's because my pillows are either too thin or too chunky. I need a good Cinderella pillow.

The my pillow didn't really help, but it is comfortable.
I bought one from Amazon that has these individual layers inside you can remove to adjust the pillow to fit what you like.
The pillow under the knees hopefully will work for me. Sleep deprevation is miserable, truly miserable.

I learned to sleep on my back with a pillow under my knees 13 years ago. It took about 2 months before I could fall asleep like that. It took about 9 months before I could fall asleep and wake up on my back.
