I had gotten a quote of 1700+tax for a mid-size truck install. That's basic black leather.

$800 for an upholstery job that can be done in less than 5hrs by a pro is a little stiff.

I had leather installed in my f150 for $1000 by CSC on airline. I forgot what brand it was but it’s similar to katzkins. $1700 seems steep..

No, but thanks for educating me. I had never heard of it until now.

Two buddies have put it in their jeeps, they are happy. Fairly easy to install.

I have a cat and I’ll sell you the skin, but you’ll need to line up a few of them to do the whole vehicle. The little shite I have should easily cover a headrest though.

You can prolly get it cheaper in Shreveport and he has done katzkin for 30 years. I know it’s further away but still.

Did you get the quote from Katzkin or from the local company? Katzkin tends to overprice on its site, presumably because they’re charging some sort of finders fee on top of the installer.

I’ve had Upholstery Limited do two of my cars and been happy. Most recent install was a few hundred less going directly to UL versus the price shown on Katzkin’s site.

Assuming it’s a 2 man job at four hours, you’re paying roughly what you’d pay a plumber or electrician and their assistant to come out.

Check out Airline glass and upholstery in Gonzales. They did onecof my trucks a few years ago with a different brand, looked like factory install. Katskin is overpriced!

Just bought a 2021 Silverado Z71 RST Tx Edition.

The only trim it was missing I wanted was leather. The dealership charged me $1,200 to put Katskinz in at Tops Unlimited. They used factory leather and color matched the interior stitching. Leather package is $3,800 so I saved money in the process.

Went over to look at patterns and they couldn’t have been less customer friendly or accommodating. I mean zero customer service skills. I left disgusted and let the Dealership handle it.

But no two ways about it...they did a great job. It’s a Crew Cab too. So it was a big job for that price. I’m really pleased. They pull the cloth off and out and the heated seats still operate flawlessly.

Based on what? You have other estimates? You know someone that does this? 800$ just sounds like a lot?
400$ for the same job that comes out anything less than perfect is a lot of money.
Price shopping automotive interior work can be risky.
Upholstery Limited is not cheap but I'm happy to pay their price. The "proof"is indeed in the pudding!

Pros in any profession get paid more than amateurs. Do it yourself or find a non-pro for a cheaper price.

There are youtube tutorials and people do it themselves. You just take the seat out, and after that it doesn't look that bad. Just tedious and time consuming, so you're probably going to end up just paying for the convenience of having someone else do it. Covid could be effecting pricing too, I bought some oem pieces to paint and add to a used truck I bought earlier this year and everything was way up to what it had been pre covid. fwiw
