OP this might be worth a phone call to an attorney. I’m not sure they can hold you liable for modifications done to the house by a previous owner. If it’s not up to code they can make you bring it up should you do any modifications. But a phone call doesn’t cost you anything.

Well I’m at a law firm so that’s not difficult just trying to get some general guidance first since this is not the type of work we do.

I really don’t see how that can say a permit wasn’t done. How do they know paperwork wasn’t lost?

Just seems like BS to me. Good luck with it.

Flip through the JP code, you actually need a permit to replace a toilet or a goddamn light switch. It's insane.

Another reason I want them nowhere near my house for a reinspection. It was a renovation and im sure some things based on the rule were not permitted.

Livingston Parish residents welcome you to the "Bendover Permit and Code Club".

You are now part an exclusive group pf people who are being scammed for BS fees for the privileged of living on your own damn property.

LP makes residents pay for a $50 "occupancy fee" before you can get electricity. then the environmental board charges you a $10 fee to get water.

Screw this up in the least or complain in any way and you will find yourself owing them money and paying rent/mortgage n a house they refuse to let you live in. Idiocy at it's best.

Just send Mike Yenni a mail order high school boy and you will win any appeal against them.

Pretty easy to prove if it's circuit breakers. Seeing that many houses were built before residential circuit breakers were in use.

I was told by code that they drive around looking for toilets and water heaters at the curb then go check for permits.

So...always haul your fixtures, do not leave them out.

This may be a long shot, but tell them that you were told that the box was replaced right after Katrina. A lot of stuff slipped through the cracks after Katrina and a lot of stuff was not permitted and the Parish didn't care at the time.

They look for new fence boards also. Adding one fence board to an existing fence requires a permit. It's ridiculous.

They were really thankful after they forced me to get a survey of my property. Evidently all the neighborhood property lines are now based off of that survey, which I was fined for, and then required to get and bring them the paperwork.

Adding to the light switch/toilet thing....not only are you required to get a permit for each one, you are also required to have a licensed electrician or plumber do the work. So swapping out a $2 light switch ends up costing $400.

Eta: I have an extra permit sitting on my mantel. I now stick it on my fence when I do something visible to my house

I renovated my entire old house without pulling a single permit. Moved walls, slab work, dumpster out front, the whole 9 yards
