Anyone familier with Jefferson Parish code enforcement.

Came home the other day to find a code violation on my door. Apparently when the parish came to do a final inspection for my pool( all permitted) they just started looking around. I’m told sometime prior to me buying the house in 2016 someone updated the electrical breaker box. They say im now responsible for repermitting and all fees and fines since im now the owner. Any thoughts?

Those assholes will frick up your world. Slip the guy $100 and see if the violation fails to get filed.

If its worth your time, I’d just show up at the hearing and dispute it

They're just gonna say it's you who updated it. My neighbor uses them to harass me. There's no way in hell you're gonna win, so just pay the fine and get it over with

I have proof that it was here when I got here. There are pictures from when I bought the house that are readily available showing the box here.

Well, since you are the owner, you are certainly going to be responsible for the fees and permits to get the shite fixed unless you can find the previous owner and get him to reimburse...but I am betting that would not be worth the time to pursue.
As far as fines go, I would say that if any are levied, I would probably go to a hearing or appeal it somehow and explain to them what you told us.

Just wait until they declare the box unsafe and pull your Occupancy Permit. You like hotel living?

Well nothing needs to be fixed everything is up to code just wasnt permitted. But I see your point.

This is why I hired a private inspector for my home addition. Well worth the $75 bucks each time he came out to not have some bureaucrat snooping around my house that was built in the 60s.
The private guy came out, looked only at whatever he was out to inspect, and went on his way.

Worst part is the box was inspected as part of the sale, everything passed. The permit is the issue which is an obvious money grab.

Well then I would certainly contest any fines...You should be able to prove that you weren't the owner at that time and therefore are guilty of breaking no laws. Don't lose your cool about it, but I certainly would make some effort to see if they will be reasonable.
How did they decide when the work was done and that it was unpermitted anyway? For all you know, the prior owner may have actually had permits.

Basically because the new box is shiny versus the old meter provided by the parish which is obviously faded since it was put up in the 60s. The guy took it upon himself to go back through all records dating back through the 90s to verify a permit was not pulled.

There’s your first problem. Never let them in. I’ve had one guy for about 6 months now that’s been trying to do the final on mine. Not gonna happen for the very situation that you’re in.

By far the biggest pain in the arse cocksuckers on the planet

The breaker panel is in the front yard so it didn’t matter. I have a corner lot where the box is exposed on the corner side.

I’d go to their office at the Yenni Bldg and explain the situation to them and see if there’s a reasonable and affordable solution that makes everyone happy. If not, contact your council person.

Tell him the house was built that way and if he argues then tell him to prove it wasn’t.

Just send a campaign contribution to John Alario and you should be set.
