I'll be in the market for a new vehicle in the next 24 months or so.

And never would have imagined me giving them a real look, but living here in the San Francisco area the infrastructure is far enough along that it may be more convenient to drive an EV that gas powered car. The price point of the Tesla has also dropped significantly and in my wheelhouse.

not sure the huge tax breaks are still available.

They're not but he didn't say when she got it. Plus some states give extra credits.

The current credit is $1875 but only runs to the end of the year.

Starting in 2020, Tesla will no longer have tax credits. I do believe there's a bill out there that may extend that for all cars or something like that, but I read that in passing, so no clue if it's legit and/or what it entails.

I did too but I hate it.

$100 and refundable so no risk at all, so may as well just reserve a spot in the slim hopes they can change/tweak it to make it passable, even though I recognize there's basically a 0% chance it is modified enough for me to like it at all.

that trimotor says 500 mile EPA rang est but w/ 14k towing capacity. I wonder if your towing say 10-12k, how much that decreases your range? Obviously significantly but can you go 200? 300?

Great question, and I've spent the bulk of today screwing off at work reading up on this thing, and I've yet to get any answer/indication/guess to how much range would be lost from towing.

I've been lucky to never have any issues but the biggest con of a Tesla is service, there are a bunch of horror stories out there. But the car itself is top notch.

interesting.

i've had nothing but good experiences with tesla's customer service..

having a mobile tech come to my home change a filters/replace wipers on a sunday was much appreciated.

Have a co-worker with a Model3 Performance. 10 days into ownership got rearended but not totalled. 5 months later the body shop finally got all the parts to return the car to him. Apparently parts are hard to come by.

There are a lot of these stories that are major cons to owning a Tesla.

I remember the day he got it. He also bought the doucheist Tesla jacket with bigass letters all over the back and wore it everyday to the office. It was like 80 fricken degrees outside. I laughed my arse off.

Why is paying for gas such an inconvenience?

Oof, that's not good.

At my old job, I had mine for 6 months and not a single person knew.

New job has free charging and a few of us with EVs.

I currently do - 2015 Model S 70 - 70K miles on it now

It's been a fantastic car. No major problems in the 4+ years I've had it. Upfront cost can be a bit more but with my purchase, I qualified for a Federal Tax Credit when I did my taxes (some states have a credit as well). I also received a rebate from my power company (Alabama Power). The overall cost isn't really different from the other cars I was looking into at the time. BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E, Audi A6. Of course, not having to stop to get gas in 4 years is pretty sweet too.
