lmfao

agreed. Atlanta is definitely another metro that's on my shite list. It's just a more affordable L.A. with more blacks, fewer Mexicans, worse weather, and no beaches.

That's actually not retarded. I would do this if I were you OP.

You can buy used 5th wheel for dirt cheap. Just being close to work will save 1/8 of his life awake and not in traffic. My friend has a POS house in LA and pays more in property tax than what the OP wants to spend on a mortgage. Getting the wife to agree may be a problem, though.

What line of work, OP?

People that say LA is a shite hole must only be talking about downtown and not the surrounding area. Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Malibu ..... All awesome. Drive 45 mins south into Orange County and there is Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Anaheim.

Not too mention you're close to both the mountains and deserts too. You can do anything.

But yeah, LA sucks and Baton Rouge is way better.

Agreed with whoever said look into Culver City.

Those areas are beautiful. Now try to get from those areas to and from your job. Not so beautiful.

If one could easily live AND work in those neighborhoods, life out there would be sweet. Much like Baton Rouge, you have to live close to your job or you'll drive yourself into an early grave. However, L.A. isn't exactly an affordable place to do that, and those desirable areas are even less so.

Ok, those are nice. I go out to train jui-jitsu in Culver City. Thumbs up there. But I just go to visit. Not sure I would want to live there with the cost of living.

LA and Atlanta suck compared to other similarly sized cities

Baton Rouge is kinda cool compared to other similarly sized cities.

Obviously Baton Rouge doesn't have the amenities of metros with 6.5 million and 13 million people respectively, but it does pretty well compared to other metros with less than 1 million people.

I’ve spent probably a total of 7 days in LA and a lot more time than that in NYC, but I strongly prefer NYC. The areas outside LA around the beaches are incredible, but so far time wise from where most would likely be working. It doesn’t even feel like the same city.

Agreed. I would put Chicago over L.A. as well after having spent time in all 3 cities.

The only thing with Chicago is the winter. I’ve only been once in the winter and it was pretty fricking brutal. NYC/northeast winter is very manageable. If you take weather out of the equation I agree

Enroll at UCLA, live in a dorm

Or, even better, pledge a fraternity.

Honestly I can't believe you accepted this job without researching any of this. You might want to rethink your decision.

Haven't accepted yet, but plan to. Again, this is my dream career. It is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and it isn't an opportunity I am even considering passing up.

I don't know why you're being such a dick in here. I definitely stated that renting was the more viable option and that the housing budget was in case there were any cheaper suburbs outside of LA to consider.

If this is the case you will make it work. Congrats to you on landing a dream job in such a desirable place, usually people are settling on the location to follow a dream career path

Sorry if you consider someone who's lived in California pointing out things you should think about as being a dick.

I find you to be extremely naive and damn sure won't waste anymore of my time trying to give advice to someone who doesn't want it and has obviously made up their mind without even considering what he's getting into. Have a nice trip out west.
